Our Youth Are Doing God's Work
On Saturday, November 14th, a dozen members of St. Dunstan's Church drove to a site in Auburn to fill sandbags for people who's homes are threatened by possible flooding on the Green River. We turned this pile of sand...

Into this pile of sandbags!

All day people came to fill sandbags of their own. We gave sandbags to people, helping to load them into cars and pickup trucks. These people were facing the loss of their homes and we were grateful to have been able to help in this small but practical way.

As we were finishing up another group arrived. They were a youth group from a church in Auburn! I had a great conversation with their pastor. It turns out, they were filling the bags to protect his house! Then, when Charles Pacher was having these pictures printed, the tech at the photo shop asked what we were doing. He was so inspired he said he was going to take the idea to his church!

May God's peace be with you.
The Rev. David Marshall

Send in Your Pledge
Last Sunday was our ingathering where we brought our 2010 pledge cards to the altar. It was a beautiful service, with the center aisle filled by people coming forward with their pledge offerings. If you missed this service, please send your pledge card in to the office or bring it to the service this Sunday and place it in the offering plate. We are well on our way to gathering the pledges to plan our 2010 budget.
Bring a Generous Food Offerings this Sunday
This last week I helped Al Bahlkow take the food items from the donation box to the Greenwood Food Bank. The Food Bank was very thankful to receive the items and also was appreciative for the thoughtfulness of the parish members of St. Dustan's Church.

Usually we take the food items to the Bank when we fill the box, which averages about once a month. Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away. We would like to take additional food items to the food bank on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.   This delivery will help the Bank distribute food to families within the Community in time for Thanksgiving.

We are asking our parishioners if they would consider bringing an extra food item to Church by next Sunday and place it in the food collection box.   We will take the donated items to the Food Bank. This extra donation could make a difference for a family to enjoy Thanksgiving, where otherwise, they may not have much of a Thanksgiving meal.

Thank You for your support.
Al Bahlkow and Warren Broderick

Help us Close the Gap
The Finance Committee has been advised of an estimated 2009 Budget deficit. After estimating November/December income and expenses, the deficit amounts to $44,500 for 2009.  What can you do to help?
  • Please pay the remainder of your 2009 pledge so that our deficit does not increase. If you are experiencing financial difficulties right now, as many people are, please let the church office know. This information will be invaluable for our planning purposes.
  • Make a financial donation to the "Fill the Gap" 2009 deficit fund. You can mail your donation to the office or place it in the collection plate. Either way, please be sure to mark your check/envelope with "Fill the Gap 2009".

We are grateful for your support and ask for your prayers.  We will overcome this challenge

Enriching Our Worship
For the past couple of months we have been rotating through all the Eucharistic prayers available for Episcopal worship. In addition to the four prayers in our Prayer Book, we have experienced the three prayers in the supplemental worship resource, "Enriching Our Worship." These prayers use beautiful language that poetically conveys what God has done for us in salvation history, from creation to the exodus to Jesus.

This rotation was intended to give introduce the full experience of Episcopal worship resources. I have heard from some that they love the newer prayers. Others have expressed a definite preference for the more familiar prayers. Some have expressed concern with the changing of prayers from one Sunday to the next. You may rest assured that we're done with the rotation. The final prayer in the rotation is the old, familiar, Prayer A and we will be using Eucharistic Prayer B throughout Advent.

I love planning worship, leading worship, talking about worship and teaching about worship. I would love to hear your feelings and thoughts on the different Eucharistic prayers and our worship in general. Do you have a favorite Eucharistic prayer? What do you like about that prayer? What is the most important part of the service for you?

Yours in Christ,
The Rev. David Marshall

Listen to This Sunday's Sermon: Rooted and Grounded in Love
Our stewardship campaign was based on Ephesians 3:17, "Rooted and Grounded in Love." This quote captures who we are and what we are about at St. Dunstan's Church.

With Jesus' birth, the Kingdom of God began to break into the world. The fulfillment of God's plan for creation is that heaven and earth are one, with Jesus as the anointed King.

Our sexton Dick has announced his intention to retire as of November 30th, to allow him to care for his wife Ellen. Dick has been a beloved and devoted employee of St. Dunstan's Church for over 20 years. We will honor and thank Dick with a financial gift on his retirement. If you would like to contribute to this purse, please send a check to the office indicating that it is for the Germain Purse. We are also considering ways to celebrate Dick's service more publicly. Stay tuned for further announcements.

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord!   The St. Dunstan’s choir leads the congregation each week in musical praise and prayer to the Lord. Please speak with Marion at coffee hour or call (206-449-5537) about the choir’s exciting plans for the year.

Please send announcements to office@sdchp.org or call the office by Tuesday evening to have them included in the Weekly Message and the Sunday Bulletin. If you would like to make an announcement during the service, please let Father David know prior to the start of the service.
