This Sunday, 19 May, we hold our monthly meeting for business. That means it’s also the day when you should bring your contributions of non-perishable food and personal hygiene items for the Germantown Avenue Crisis Ministry’s food cupboard; leave them in the gathering room near the double doors to the foyer.
The agenda (with links to documents to be considered; order subject to change):
What is our Meeting’s role in the life and support of Friends’ education? If supporting or maintaining a Friends school, have we developed an appropriate relationship of Meeting and school? What is our role in the spiritual life of the school and its maintenance of Friends’ principles?
What does our Meeting do to support education in the wider community?
What help do we provide for the children and adults in our Meeting to pursue the education they seek, whether academic, technical, or vocational? Do we make provision for children in our Meeting to attend a Friends school?
How do I show my concern for the improvement of public education in my community and in the world?
Am I aware of what Friends schools are doing and of their plans for the future? How do I show encouragement and support?
The Outreach Committee would like to invite you to a friendly discussion at Jean Warrington’s house, 319 W Springfield Road, Philadelphia on Monday May 20 at 7pm. We hope you can join us as we talk about the meaning of the term “Inner Light.” We’ll be happy to answer any questions you have about our meeting or Quakerism as well.
Please let Barbara Buonocore know if you can make it by sending her email (email@example.com) or calling (215) 233-4317.
On Tuesday, 21 May, 2013, the sixth Stephen G Cary Memorial Lecture will be given at 7:30 - 9:00 pm at The Barn at Pendle Hill. The speaker is Steve Chase, author of Letters to a Fellow Seeker; the title of the talk is Revelation & Revolution: Quaker Activism as a Path Toward Faithfulness.
Even though Philadelphia Yearly Meeting’s annual sessions and Friends General Council’s Gathering seem like they’re in the distant future, their deadlines for processing applications for scholarship aid for families to attend are fast approaching. In both cases, the sooner you apply, the better your chances of receiving assistance.
We have learned the new date when we take possession of our building will be July 25. The latest schedule is here. Note the dates when hands are needed for packing and moving.
Phil Jones, secretary
