CHFM: E-bulletin for 27 October, 2011

Chestnut Hill Friends Meeting E-Bulletin
Friends,
Because the e-newsletter for November will be a little late, this bulletin contains time-sensitive information and reminders for the next few days.
-
Blue Moon Potluck on Sunday, 10/30
-
Carla White, clerk of Hospitality Committee, reminds you that as October 2011 is a month with five Sundays, this Sunday we celebrate our community by bringing something to share for a lunch following the rise of meeting. There is always plenty of food, so if you forget and come empty-handed, you should still stay and enjoy the food and fellowship. (And remember that if you do bring something, don’t include strawberries, as a member of our community has extreme sensitivity to them.)

Changes Between Design Development Approval and Construction Documents
-
The Meeting approved the architect’s Design Development Phase in February of 2011 and authorized the Client Committee to proceed to Construction Documentation (CDs). As the architects developed those documents some modifications were made to the approved design.
John Howard and Dylan Steinberg will be available at the rise of meeting on Sunday, October 30, to answer questions about the modifications that were made.
This document explains the changes.

Walk to defeat ALS!
-
Last year a group of Chestnut Hill Friends participated in the Walk to Defeat ALS of the Greater Philadelphia chapter of The ALS Association in memory of Christine Oliger. This year the walk will be on Saturday, November 5, and Amey Hutchins, Dylan Steinberg, and Beth Zelasky have registered with the team organized by Mary McConaghy, a neighbor diagnosed with ALS about two years ago. She worships at St. Martin’s and her sons went to Plymouth Meeting Friends School when they were children. The ALS Association provides much-needed support of many kinds to people with ALS and their families, and also raises money for research. Chestnut Hill Friends can help in two ways:
-
Sponsor Mary McConaghy or Beth Zelasky for the walk (Dylan and Amey will be in a chorus rehearsal). Visit the walk website, where you can look up walkers by name and make a donation online; it is possible to designate a gift as in memory of Christine.
-
Eat at the Trolley Car Diner in the week leading up to the walk (October 31-November 5) and 10% of your bill will go to The ALS Association through Mary’s team (Mary’s Web of Friends). To participate, you need to print out the Helping Hands coupon and take it with you. Milkshakes for a good cause!
Watch for the November newsletter next week (which is a reminder that there’s still time to get submissions to the newsletter editor before the deadline, which has been extended).
