BY THE NUMBERS ...

So far this year, WAG has found new homes for:

147 cats and kittens

69 dogs and puppies

1 rabbit

Charlie is the latest addition to WAG's family. The 11-week-old Lab puppy
came into our care late Friday after being struck by a vehicle in Brownstown Township. The man who was caring for him ran him over with a car and then decided he didn't want to pay for the puppy's veterinary bills.

Sensing Charlie was in need of immediate medical attention, he was taken to Michigan Veterinary Specialists in Southfield, where he is still recovering. Doctors there tell us that his lungs are severely bruised. He is hooked up to an IV and is undergoing constant X-rays to ensure he is healing correctly. If everything goes as planned, he should be released this week to finish his recovery in one of our foster homes. He could be ready for adoption as soon as mid-October.

If you're interested in giving him a new start at life, please fill out our online application. If you'd like to help with his medical costs until a new home is found, you can donate online in his name. While we haven't yet received a final bill, we are estimating that his veterinary bills will be several thousand dollars. We pride ourselves in being able to help the Charlies in the world because of the financial assistance we receive from our kind donors.

Charity poker nights are quickly become a fad and WAG would like to get in on the fun. But we need your help. In order to host an event, we need volunteers. You don't have to know a thing about poker; just be friendly and willing to donate a few hours of your time. We're hoping to host our first event early next year. For more information or to sign up, please get in touch.

Nov. 15 (1 p.m.)

WAG's very popular bowling fund-raiser returns to Indian Lanes in Wyandotte. For $20, you get three games of bowling, shoe rental, door prizes and a pizza and pop lunch. A silent auction, a raffle and 50/50s also will be held. Children welcome. Come alone or gather up a group of friends to fill a lane. All proceeds benefit homeless animals. To RSVP, email or call 734-322-0314.

Now until Nov. 30

WAG is partnering with Two Women -N- Wax Candles in Wyandotte for a fund-raiser. All of their candles are hand poured at their shop. Samples of all available scents will be available to smell at Bookies & Cookies and Cosmic Bowling. Orders can be placed there as well. For a brochure to show to friends and family, please email us.

WAG is always looking for prizes to use in raffles and silent auctions throughout the year. Do you have a gift card lying around you aren't using? Are you a stylist willing to donate a haircut? Maybe your work has a corporate giving program? The possibilities are endless and you will receive a tax write-off for your generosity. For more ideas or to donate, please email us. Thank you!
