Broadmoor Community is about Community
by Scott Lovaas
Broadmoor Community Church in Colorado Springs has been recognized regionally, state-wide and nationally for their work in the community. In the midst of the economic downturn in 2008, Broadmoor put forth an innovative broad-based partnership program to keep a local community center open. The model brings together the public sector, the private sector, and civil society under one umbrella. While many faith based groups, run and management social service agencies, this model has the government overseeing and coordinating services, while volunteers help run programs. In April 2012, Broadmoor Community Church and Meadows Park Community Center will present “Broad‐Based Partnerships – A New Way Forward” at the national Transforming Local Government Conference 2012 “Imagining Innovations of the Future” in Kansas City.
On a another note, Broadmoor Community has raised over $225,000 over the past five years through their Alternative Gift Fair. The Fair brings in over 40 artisan non-profit vendors from around the world. All proceeds go back to local communities and villages in the developing world.
