The N.C. Transportation Museum Presents 'Firetrucks!' and 'Day Out With Thomas'

Then, bring your Thomas the Tank Engine fans out to "Day Out With Thomas" Sept. 25-27 or Oct. 2-4. A working Thomas the Tank Engine locomotive will visit the museum, with a

Catch Up on Your Revolutionary War History at Historic Latta Plantation Sept. 5-6 and the Charlotte Museum of History Sept. 26
Celebrate Charlotte's Revolutionary War history at Hisoric Latta Plantation Sept. 5-6, where you can watch the battles of
Charlotte and McIntyre Farm, see soldier demos, tour the plantation and
shop with period sutlers. Admission to the plantation is $6 per person, and ages 5 and

Then, on Sept. 26, come out to the Charlotte Museum of History to learn about how soldiers and families lived, worked, played and fought during this
important part of history. Sept. 26 is also Smithsonian Museum Day at Charlotte's only
Smithsonian Affiliate Museum. Enjoy free general admission for you and
a guest by presenting the Museum Day admission card, which is
available in the September 2009 issue of Smithsonian magazine or
downloadable via the Smithsonian Museum Day website.
Butterflies Will Arrive at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden Sept. 4-Oct. 11
Butterflies are coming to the Daniel Stow Botanical Garden during its Something’s
A-Flutte r event. Hundreds of butterflies can be seen in The Orchid
Conservatory and the outdoor gardens during this special event.

The Annual Potters Market Invitational is at the Mint Museum of Art Sept. 12
Craft enthusiasts will have the opportunity to meet and purchase works
by some of North Carolina’s top potters at the 5th Annual Potte rs
Market Invitational Sept. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults ($8 after 2:00 p.m.); $5 for children 5-17; and free for children 4 and younger. Learn more here.
The Mint Museum will also offer an after school class on animated pattern sculpture Sept. 8 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. for ages 7 to 10. The cost is $20 for members and $30 for non-members. Learn more here.
The Novello Reading Festival Begins Sept. 26
The Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County presents the
19th annual Novello Festival of Reading Sept. 26-Oct. 31. This popular festival brings
book lovers and authors together for a celebration of books and
reading. Children's events include a book signing by Tomie dePaola, a highly recognized children’s author and illustrator
of more than 200 books. There will also be a book signing by Nancy Krulik, author of “Katie Kazoo” series fame and more than 150
books, including three New York Times bestsellers. Learn about additional children's events here.
Enjoy Bluegrass and Barbecue at the Historic Latta Plantation's Family Friendly Fundraiser Sept. 26
Experience a beautiful evening on the plantation with live bluegrass
from the Stevens Mill Band and delicious barbecue (hotdogs available for kids) for dinner. There will be a silent antiques auction, pony rides,
a bounce house and other children's activities. All proceeds benefit
Historic Latta Plantation, a non-profit historic site and farm in
Huntersville. Individual tickets are $20 per person and Family tickets for four people
