Disney on Ice's "Celebrations" Skates Into Time Warner
Cable Arena Oct. 8-11
It’s one colossal party on ice, with everyone’s favorite Disney friends in
attendance! Fans will enjoy a winter wonderland with Mickey Mouse and Minnie
Mouse, a Halloween haunt with the Disney Villains, a Very Merry Unbirthday Party,
a Royal Ball with the Disney Princesses and more in a magical medley of
holidays, celebrations and festivals from around the globe. Disney On Ice will
also introduce Tiana and Prince Naveen from Disney’s The Princess and the Frog.
Charlotte audiences will see Tiana, the newest Disney Princess, before the

'So You Think
You Can Dance' Taps Into Time Warner Cable Arena Oct. 19
The highly anticipated “So You Think You Can Dance Tour”
returns to Time Warner Cable Arena October 19 at 7:30 p.m., giving fans a
chance to see their favorite dancers up close and in person. The show will feature
the season’s most popular routines as well as original pieces created
specifically for the nationwide tour. Finalists participating include Season 5
Top 10 dancers Ade, Brandon, Evan, Janette, Jason, Jeanine, Kayla, Kupono,

Children's
Theatre of Charlotte Presents 'New Kid' Oct. 23-31
The Children's Theatre of Charlotte's "New Kid" is
an award-winning play that tells the story of a boy named Nick who leaves the
fictitious country of Homeland and comes to America with his parents. Through
the theatrical device of having the American characters speak an invented
phonetic language while Nick and his parents speak English, the audience
immediately shares Nick’s isolation and confusion. Eventually Nick gains a
sense of belonging, even as he teaches his new friends a lesson about learning
to celebrate their differences. Performed by the Tarradiddle Players and

ZooFest
Begins at the North Carolina Zoo Oct. 3
Visit the North Carolina Zoo any day in October to see a lavish display of
African Violets in the African Pavilion. Enjoy native North American music Oct.
3, African music Oct. 10, HOWL-O-Ween (featuring Red Wolves) Oct. 17, BOO at

Transportation Museum Will Host 'Disney's A Christmas Carol' Train Tour Oct.
9-10
Check out Disney's train and get a sneak peak at the new "Disney's
A Christmas Carol" movie starring Jim Carrey and directed by Robert
Zemeckis Oct. 9 and 10 only. It's all free! Get a behind-the-scenes look at the

The Fourth Annual Whitewater
Festival at the U.S. National Whitewater Center is Oct. 2-3
Due to the special addition of the kayak race, the U.S.
National Whitewater Center's Fourth Annual Whitewater Festival will kick-off
early this year on Friday, Oct. 2. The USA Canoe/Kayak 2009 Canoe Slalom
National Championships Quarterfinals are from 5 to 9 p.m. Enjoy live music from
Round Black Ghosts from 6 to 9 p.m. On Saturday, festival activities include a
used gear sale from 8 to 11 a.m.;
live music throughout the day; the
WorldKayak Hometown Throwdown Rodeo Race at noon; a
Kid's Zone from 2 to 6 p.m.
; a Dogger Head-to-Head Slalom
Race at 3 p.m.; and the
USA Canoe/Kayak 2009 National Championships from 5 to
10 p.m.

Plantation to celebrate the organization's 28th Annual Folklife Festival and

the Stevens Mill Band throughout the weekend. Children can listen to stories,

Bring your Thomas the Tank Engine fans out to "Day Out With Thomas"
Sept. 25-27 or Oct. 2-4. A working Thomas the Tank Engine locomotive will visit

Butterflies
Continue to Flutter at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden Through Oct. 11
Butterflies are still fluttering about at the Daniel Stow Botanical Garden
during its Something’s A-Flutter event. Hundreds of butterflies can be seen in
The Orchid Conservatory and the outdoor gardens during this special event.

The Novello Reading Festival Continues Through Oct. 31
The Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County
presented the 19th annual Novello Festival of Reading Sept. 26 and it will
continue through Oct. 31. This popular festival brings book lovers and authors
together for a celebration of books and reading. Children's events include a
book signing by Tomie dePaola, a highly recognized children’s author and
illustrator of more than 200 books. There will also be a book signing by Nancy
Krulik, author of “Katie Kazoo” series fame and more than 150 books, including
three New York Times bestsellers. Learn

Experience
Fall Foliage on the Virginia Autumn Flyer at the North Carolina Transportation
Museum
The N.C. Transportation Museum Foundation and the Watauga Valley Chapter of the
National Railway Historical Society offer a chance to see beautiful fall
foliage, experience a great destination and enjoy the romance of riding the
rails this fall. The museum is again hosting fall train excursions, with a
special treat this year. In addition to the museum's traditional
Charlottesville, Va. day trip, it will also offer a day trip to Asheville. The
train departs Spencer at exactly 7 a.m. Learn more here.

MOVIE RELEASES
In
advance of the June 18, 2010 release of "Toy
Story 3," Disney Digital Studios will release a double feature of "Toy Story 1" and "Toy Story 2" in 3D Oct. 2
at theaters nationwide. Learn more about that here.

Oct. 16, Maurice Sendak's classic story "Where
the Wild Things Are" comes to the big screen in an adventure tale

drop by the "Wild Rumpus Teacher Celebration"
being held in honor of the movie release at local Borders bookstores Oct. 2
at 6 p.m. There will be crafts, games and other fun activities for kids.
"Astro Boy" debuts Oct. 23. Set in futuristic Metro City, this movie
focuses on a young robot with incredible powers created by a brilliant

History will show the 1958 adventure movie "The Pirate of the Black Hawk" Oct. 2 from 7 to 9 p.m.
as part of the museum's First Friday at the Movies series. There will be free
