Dec. 11-23
This joyful holiday play whisks the audience through seasonal
celebrations from around the world. This year's performance also includes a favorite Hanukkah story.

It’s Christmas Eve and the famously bossy Mouse
protagonist can't wait to go to the movies. But if you take a mouse to the movies,
well, what will happen next? Join Children's Theatre of Charlotte for
the regional premiere of Laura Joffe Numeroff's holiday-themed tale

Snow Globes Feature the Polar Express at Northlake Mall
The Snow Globes have become a must-see family tradition at Northlake
Mall. Visit the Snow Globes, featuring The Polar Express, through Dec. 24, where you can play in the engine room with the
train whistle, get "snowed on" inside the giant snow globe and be
transported to the North Pole in this spectacular interactive

Christmas Town USA
View beautiful lights from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on week nights and 5:30 to 11 p.m. on weekend nights Dec. 1-26. The 15-mile drive west of Charlotte to see one of the region's most beautiful Christmas light displays is well worth it. Learn more here.
Holiday Lights at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden
The Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden's Holiday Lights tradition returns Nov 27-Dec. 31 for
its fifth year with a display that includes nearly 600,000 lights. Learn more here.

Historic Latta Plantation Hosts Candlelight Christmas and 'A Homeschool Christmas'
Step back into an 1820s Christmas as you tour the plantation by
candlelight Dec. 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. In the house you will see dancing, meet James and Jane
Latta, enjoy the excitement of childen before bedtime, and more! Take
in the scents of Christmas in the kitchen and see how slaves celebrated

Enjoy Christmas at the James K. Polk Historic Site
Come to the James K. Polk Historic Site Dec. 12 to see a living history vignette in the main house, and each
building will be decorated in the 19th century style. You'll also learn
about food and customs from Christmas in 1802. Learn more here.

Elf Camp at the Schiele Museum of Natural History
Children are invited to join us for Elf Camp Dec. 5 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.. This is an opportunity for some fun, food and gift making during the busy shopping season. Each session includes food, a planetarium show, enrichment activities and the opportunity for participants to hand-make a natural gift for a loved one. Themes vary for each session. Learn more here.
Children's Theatre of Charlotte's Santa's Bag Shopping Event is Dec. 2-5
Santa's Bag, a unique holiday shopping event that makes it easy for
children to experience the joy of giving, will be open to the public
from Dec. 2-5. Now in its 37th year, Santa’s Bag is organized by
ENCORE!, the Theatre's award-winning volunteer auxiliary. Learn more here.
First Night Charlotte 2010: An Imagination Celebration
This alcohol-free, public festival begins at 3 p.m. Dec. 31 and marks the passage
from the old year to the new. First
Night offers a wide variety of artists with a broad range of appeal.
Performances are held in both indoor and outdoor venues in close

The World Famous Lipizzaner Stallions Perform Dec. 6
The "World Famous" Lipizzaner Stallions proudly present their 40th anniversary presentation of the "Dancing White Stallions" Dec. 6 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Time Warner Cable Arena. Order tickets here.
MUSEUM EVENTS
The Mint Museum Presents Adult-Child Workshops Dec. 10 and 16
The Mint Museum of Craft + Design presents a "Star Light, Star Bright" Crafty Kids Adult/Child Workshop Dec. 10 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Children ages 3 to 5 and their grown-up companions will create a set of notecards featuring the Evening Star quilt block pattern. Then, on Dec. 16 the Mint Museum of Art presents a Mini-Masters Adult/Child Workshop on Snowflakes. Children ages 3 to 5 and their grown-up companions willl make lovely snowflakes using crayons and liquid watercolors, and read a winter-themed story. Juice will be served at both events.
DECEMBER MOVIE RELEASES
"THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG" rated G, arrives in theaters Dec. 11 and stars Anika Noni Rose, Keith David and Jenifer Lewis. Free-spirited Prince Naveen of Maldonia deals with a shady doctor and is turned into a frog. In a desperate attempt to reacquire his human form, Prince Naveen embarks on a hilarious adventure through Louisiana and Mississippi with the beautiful Tiana. Watch the trailer here.
"ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: THE SQUEAKEL" is rated PG and arrives in theaters Dec. 23. Alvin, Simon and Theodore end up in the care of Dave Seville’s nephew Toby (Zachary Levi). The boys must put aside music superstardom to return to school, and save the school’s music program by winning the $25,000 prize in a battle of the bands. But the Chipmunks unexpectedly meet their match in three singing chipmunks known as "The Chipettes" – Brittany, Eleanor and Jeanette. Watch the trailer here.
"SHERLOCK HOLMES" arrives in theaters on Christmas Day. In a dynamic new portrayal of Arthur Conan Doyle's most famous characters, "Sherlock Holmes" sends Holmes and Watson on their latest challenge. Revealing fighting skills as lethal as his legendary intellect, Holmes will battle as never before to bring down a new nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy the country.
