From your Librarian:
WONDERFUL HOLIDAY SHOPPING OPPORTUNITY COMING SOON!! Next Monday, December 7th we have a great
opportunity to do some extended hours holiday shopping at A Children's
Place Bookstore (4807 NE Fremont St) and raise money for the SES
library at the same time!
If
you shop at this wonderful locally owned
bookstore on December 7th (and say you are shopping for Sunnyside) 10%
of what you spend will be given to the SES library so we buy great
books for your kids. They'll be open extra hours that day
(10am - 8pm) and in addition to children's books, toys, stuffed
animals, and cds they have an excellent collection of books for
grown-ups too (hand-selected by the marvelous staff). You might also
want to pick up a "wish list" book for one of the SES teachers while
you are shopping (there will be SES staff wish-lists at the bookstore
on the 7th). Happy shopping!! - Kathryn, the librarian.
November TAG news:
If you are a parent of a TAG student, there are TAG parent handbooks now available in the office. Please see Kristy or Amy if you would like one.
The deadline for TAG nomination has been extended until November 29. If you would like to nominate your child for TAG testing and have not already done so, please speak with your child's teacher at your scheduled conference time next week. The teacher will need to gather necessary work samples before he/she leaves for Thanksgiving Break.

Congratulations to Eve Green! Eve is the winner of the November SCRIP drawing for a $20 gift card.
Ordering SCRIP/Pre-Paid Shopping Cards for the holidays!
The
Holidays are almost upon us. This year, give the gift that gives
twice. SCRIP Pre-Paid Gift Cards offer an easy way to take care of
many of your holiday gift giving needs. Your purchase also benefits
our kids, with a percentage of each purchase going to Sunnyside PTA
programs that support our whole school. MIDDLE SCHOOL FAMILIES CAN
DEDICATE THE PROFITS FROM THEIR PURCHASES TOWARD THE MARINE BIOLOGY
FUND.
You can skip the post office and avoid a trip to the
mall. Buy gift cards for out-of-town relatives, stocking stuffers and
everyone else on your list. An order form with a list of all cards is
attached.
Print out the attached form to make your order. Of
course, we will always have the favorites at the front table, every
Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning. DON'T FORGET YOUR CHECKBOOK!
Your order with a check made out to SES PTSA must be returned to the scrip table or the envelope hanging in the office by:
**Monday, December 7th for pick-up on Friday December 11th or

How Can We Raise Enough Money This Year Without the Auction?
There is a way for SES Parents to contribute thousands of dollars to SES without buying anything extra!!!
It's called E-SCRIP
This morning I registered my Safeway card
and my Debit card with e-scrip in 5-10 min. Without buying anything
extra, I will be able to contribute potentially hundreds of dollars to
SES.
Think about the amount of time you spent on
the auction last year. Even if you just did one thing for the auction,
think about applying just a fraction of that time into registering your
Safeway card, Debit card, and Credit Cards with e-scrip. It is very
simple and takes 5-10 min. If you do it now, all of your holiday
shopping will be earning money for SES. In addition to Safeway, the
most popular retailers in the Pacific Northwest who participate in the
e-scrip program are ZUPAN'S, MACY'S, EDDIE BAUER, and SIERRA TRADING
POST. E-scrip has a nice website that explains the process for those
who need to know exactly how it works.
DIRECTIONS AND CODES:
1. Have your Safeway card, Debit card, and any credit cards with you at your computer.
3. Type in SES' Group ID #: 8567150. Then click on SES.
4. Register your Safeway card by typing in the number below the bar code.
5. Register your debit card by typing in the number.
6. Register any credit cards if you use them.
That's it!!! You can look around the website. You can shop on
the e-scrip online mall with familiar merchants if you wish. The main
point is that now you know you are contributing to SES with many of
your ordinary, every day purchases. Thank you for your contribution to
Sunnyside Environmental School.
| We
need volunteers to help with Christmas tree recycling! This event is a
fundraiser for middle school marine biology trips. Please contact
Diana Tesh at vlahakistesh@gmail.com if
you can help. In particular, we need students and adults who can help
advertise and deliver flyers before the holidays. We also need middle
school students and adults to help on Jan 2 and 3. We especially need
people with pick up trucks who can pick up trees and bring them
to Sunnyside for recycling.
Even if you can't help with the event, please recycle your tree at
SES and tell your friends about the event. Or better yet, offer to
collect trees from your neighborhoods and bring them to school!
WHEN: Saturday and Sunday, January 2nd and 3rd, 10am-4pm
WHERE: Blacktop behind Sunnyside school
COST: $5 if you drop off your tree, $8 if we pick it up; $3 for wreathes or garlands (drop off)
No flocked trees or tinsel, please.
Thanks for your help!

Amigas Fundraiser:
Hello Sunnyside Community Members,
My name is Sonja Pearson-Denning and I am an SES alumnae. This
coming summer I am participating in the Amigos De Las Americas program,
which is a non-profit organization that sends teenagers from all over
the United States to Latin American countries where we are going to be
volunteering in small communities doing service projects. To help raise
money for the trip, I am fundraising by selling boxes of Caracara
oranges, and grapefruit. The boxes are twenty pounds and cost $25, I am
also going to be selling half a box for $13. The fruit is really
delicious. I will deliver the grapefruit the weekend of December
12-13. The oranges arrive in mid-January.
If you are interested in buying citrus, please e-mail me at sonjoypd@yahoo.com,
or talk to Kristy, Sunnyside's secretary (who is my mother.) Please
order grapefruit by December 1st. Thank you for your support.
