Committee Members Needed

The Tampa Bay Dragon Boat Institute is in need of volunteer committee members for the following Committees:

  • Extra Events 
  • Volunteer 
  • Fundraising 
  • Team Sales 

Committees meet on an average of once per month and are responsible for carrying out multiple different functions of the Tampa Bay Dragon Boat Institute.

If you are interested in becoming a committee member please email Christine Canevari.


Correction

Last month we announced the formation of the new Youth team being formed here in Tampa, and mis-printed the status of youth teams in the South.  In 2009 the Red Dragons, based out of Miami, FL, formed the first youth team in the region.  www.reddragons.us

Friday, August 13th: Happy Hour Mini Regatta  from 5:30 - 8:30 pm we will be racing on our 250m mini regatta course in front of the Tampa Convention Center.  Paddlers are $10 each and will receive a complimentary beverage (draft beer or house wine).  Full teams will receive a discounted rate of $175.  The Sail Pavilion at the Convention Center will be open for discounted drinks and their new full menu!  Please RSVP HERE by Monday, August 9th.

Saturday, September 18th: Mini Regatta from 8:00 to 11:00 am.  This mini regatta will also be located at the Tampa Convention Center, on our 250m mini regatta course.  Complimentary coffee, juice and water will be included with your $10 per person registration fee.  Full teams receive a discounted rate of $175.  
 
Saturday, October 23rd: Prelude to the World Championships - this event is a warm-up event to the 10th IDBF World Dragon Boat Racing Championship being hosted in Downtown Tampa on DBR_7171 Revised LogoAugust 3-7, 2011.  "The Prelude" will demonstrate the use of the  Seddon Channel race course at the 200m and 500m distances, the buoyed lanes, start line, finish line and start docks.
 
Registration fee for this event is $500 for teams of all racing classes.  All racing classes will be entertained, but racing classes with less than 3 entries will be combined with other divisions.  Only divisions with more than 3 entries will receive awards.  All racing class regulations will follow the IDBF Competition Regulations.

Announcement

The Tampa Bay Paddling Club is hosting a midsummer Dragon Boat Training Camp.  They are welcoming all Florida paddlers to participate and learn more about the sport from a high-quality coaching staff.
 
The program includes Saturday, August 14th with an introductory on shore session followed by an on water session with video.  Video review will follow, along with another on water session in the afternoon.
 
Sunday, August 15th the Camp is open to teams and partial teams to have a group coaching session.  Each session will be approximately 90 minutes.
