Election Victory for Safer Streets!

Victory at the polls -- Prop B won!

Walk SF supported Prop B, a bond which includes over $70 million for pedestrian safety improvements on San Francisco streets, such as wider sidewalks, countdown signals, road diets, and curb ramps. These investments in better streets will help everyone, including people with disabilities and parents with strollers, to get around the city more easily and safely.

Walk SF will act as a watchdog to make sure that these new bond funds go to the highest-priority areas to make the city's streets more walkable.

Hayes Valley Tour this Sunday

Join Walk SF to explore Hayes Valley’s colorful past, present, and future—from early Victorians to mid-century decline to post-freeway renaissance.
We’ll have stops for landmark buildings, the Hayes Valley Farm, and more – and we’ll finish at a local pub.

Campaign Update: 42 Schools Safer So Far

The campaign for safe speed zones is moving ahead fast -- Walk SF’s advocacy has won new 15-mph speed limits at 42 schools throughout the city as of last week!

This week, the police will be reporting on their enforcement efforts to make sure drivers are obeying the limits and creating safer conditions.

Walk SF is looking to win new zones at 200+ schools by the end of this school year -- calming traffic in neighborhoods all over the city, and doing it fast.

Walk SF will also be working with Mayor Lee to get the word out about the new safe speed zones, so more drivers know to slow down for kids (and everyone else!).

Campaign Update: Pedestrian Action Planning Begins

Action! The City has committed to drafting a Pedestrian Action Plan and work is starting now. Walk SF is calling for clear commitments and concrete deadlines:
we want to see ten miles of safer streets every year.

This is a top priority for Walk SF. The plan offers is a precedent-setting opportunity to make San Francisco a national leader in reclaiming streets and putting walking first.

Spring Internships Available at Walk SF

Walk SF is looking for membership and outreach interns for Spring 2012. Build your resume and get valuable hands-on experience in the non-profit field. Internships begin mid-January 2012. Applications are being accepted now.
