Trick and Treat!

IMG_6465Finally, our Halloween party is almost here!  You really don't want to miss this!  On October 29th, we will have another one of our delicious barbecues catered by Old San Luis Barbecue.  We'll also have what  is sure to be another hilarious dog costume contest.  I was not here last year, so I missed out on all of the fun, but I saw the pictures and the video...so ridiculously cute.  I have been waiting all year for this!  It will be 12:00-3:00.  Please RSVP with the office so we can make sure to have enough of those amazing tri-tip sandwiches for everyone.

Manager's Column

Our new assistant manager, John Tiedemann, will be joining us this month.  We are so fortunate to have John coming on board as he comes with great experience that will be a tremendous asset to the pet resort.  Having John with us will offer so much opportunity for us to continue to improve and expand our services.  I'm going to let John tell you more about himself in our November Newsletter.

Update: As of November 1st, we will no longer be accepting American Express.  American Express has not been timely in their service to us.  This, in addition, other features related to accepting American Express has effected the accuracy of our accounting.  Furthermore, American Express charges significantly more than Master Card or Visa.  We would much rather use this money to improve our service to you in other areas.  We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Alpha Dogs

In case you have missed previous Newsletters, our Alpha Dogs Program takes in dogs who would otherwise go to a shelter and the dogs are trained by our Alpha students.  The dogs who complete the program are able to be adopted with basic obedience training which includes learning to follow commands such as sit, stay, down, come, settle and leave it.  They also learn basic manners such as loose leash walking and not to jump up on people.  This experience for the students is better described by one of the students, Joshua. Joshua states, "This for me (Alpha Dog training) was the pivotal point in my life. Because you see, the dogs showed me something that I don't think I have felt since my mother passed away; that is love and not just any love, but unconditional friendship and loyalty. This brought out a joy inside me that I thought had been lost forever."  You can help by adopting an "Alpha Dog", or by telling your friends about our Alpha Dogs Program and dogs available.   Please see our Facebook page about the dogs we have available.  You do not have to be a member of Facebook to access the page.  You can go to our website to the Dog Blog and access our Facebook page directly from there.

Another way to help here at Thousand Hills Pet Resort is by donating a car, truck, motorcycle, RV, boat etc. and encouraging a friend to do so as well.

The proceeds of your tax deductible gift go to help fund the life changing work that goes on with Alpha students and Alpha Dogs at Thousands Hills Pet Resort. Click the link below for more information or to donate your vehicle today and be apart of doing good locally.

Groomer's Tip

From Nose to Toes...

Grooming Rescue Dogs... We love rescue dogs! Our very own Dawg E. Dog and Waffles are perfect examples of loving, wonderful, adoptable pets. We at Thousand Hills Pet Resort support those gracious families who share their hearts and and give rescues a forever home. Since dogs can't talk (you might argue with me there), we don't always know their history, past experiences, or background. Mostly, they're sweet and forgiving, but sometimes may be fearful or overwhelmed. Grooming these babies takes patience and gentle handling. Always let us know if your baby is a recent addition to your family, and any background information you have. For example, if he/she is scared of loud noises, (we will kennel dry or use low speed hand dryer), or won't let you touch his tail or fanny, (he may have been kicked). Some rescues may even snap if in a new situation, (also called fear biting). I have found that with love and patience, almost any dog can be groomed. It may take a little more time, but eventually they learn to trust their groomer, and rescue dogs are no exception. I've been grooming two lovely Silky Terriers named Charlie and Spike who were adopted into a wonderful home. (Bless you Jaime and Sue!) Charlie's story and pictures are featured on The front Web page of Silky Terrier rescue! He is a dream to groom. Many of our Thousand Hills Pet Resort families have adopted, rescued, or otherwise made a difference in the life of a pup who needed help.  I just want to thank you all! I will  give your adopted pet the love, kindness and patience every groomer should give every pet, every time. Happy Halloween to all! JJ

Daycare Dog of the Month!

LilyMarkwithOctober's Daycare Dog of the Month is sweet miss Lily! Lily, a wonderful little black Cocker Spaniel, brings a bit of calm to the play groups in Daycare, and often acts as a bit of a moderator for her two playful brothers when they are roughhousing with each other. While she is getting on a bit in age, she is still so enthusiastic about giving and receiving attention, and always has energy to join in a little bit of play, especially with her brothers! Congratulations Lily, you are October's Daycare Dog of the Month!
