Toys for Tots!
Thousand Hills Pet Resort is very excited to be partnering with the United States Marine Corps Reserve and their Toys for Tots program this holiday season. This organization has served our community and brightened the lives of less fortunate children locally, by providing them with Christmas toys!! Over the next three weeks leading up to Christmas, you can bring a new unwrapped toy and drop it off in their collection box located in the resort's office. The value of your toy donation should be a minimum of $10 and in return you can get 1 day of free daycare for each toy donated. We greatly appreciate the efforts of the Marine Corp's Mission and welcome the chance to be a part of this program and to be able to spread a little Christmas cheer and happiness to those in our community who could benefit from your gift. Your gift of holiday joy could make a big difference in the life of a young child this holiday season. We at Thousand Hills Pet Resort would like to thank you in advance for your generosity and to wish you and your family all the best for a joyous holiday season!
Manager's Article
We are ending another year which means I've now been the Thousand Hills Pet Resort manager for a full year. Being an animal lover really since birth, I knew the pets would be great fun. However, what I didn't realize about the job is how amazing the people would be. First of all, the customers....it has been incredibly fun to get to know all of our customers. Everyone is so friendly, kind, generous, thoughtful, supportive, and a joy to know. I can't even express how much I love and appreciate our wonderful customers. Your partnership with us in the care of your pets has sincerely been my pleasure. I really had no idea how much fun that part of the job would be.
Having been a social worker prior to coming to the pet resort, I knew that I would love working with the Alpha students. These young men have come to the Alpha Academy to improve their lives and create a lifemap for their futures. Participating in the Alpha Academy is not easy, yet they voluntarily come to us seeking assistance and guidance. I am ever impressed with the openness of these guys to the education that is provided to them while they are participating in the Alpha Academy. The work ethic of the students who currently work at the pet resort has been just as impressive as the rest of our staff (which is honestly saying a lot). Some of the students continue to work at the pet resort even after graduating from the program and they have provided great leadership to the current students.
That takes me to the rest of our staff. I don't believe I've ever worked with such a loving, hard working, and positive staff since I started working at Thousand Hills Pet Resort. If you can believe it, our staff love their jobs so much, I had a hard time finding people who didn't want to work on Thanksgiving. That was a very new and surprising experience for me. Also, their encouragement of each other and their teamwork is inspiring!
Something I have not previously shared is that most months, the management selects a proactive employee of the month (some months, it's hard to pick out a single person amongst our hard working team). This month, our standout proactive employee was Monika Jud! Most of you know Monika because she has worked in the front office for four years. Monika's extensive knowledge of dogs and her organizational skills has always kept us on task. This month, Monika worked tirelessly to help us prepare for one of our busiest times of the year, Thanksgiving. Over Thanksgiving, we boarded 97 pets daily. This requires, as you can imagine, a high level of organization. Monika independently led the charge in ensuring that we were fully prepared. As a result, Thanksgiving went incredibly smoothly at the pet resort which allowed us to ensure the loving quality of care for your pets that you expect of us when you are entrusting us with their care. Thank you Monika for your outstanding proactivity!
It is sincerely my honor to work with all of you; customers, staff, management, and pets too, as the manager of Thousand Hills Pet Resort!
Still No Home for Waffles?
Seriously, I can't believe that we have not yet found a home for Waffles. Really...who doesn't love Waffles? When we got Waffles, I honestly predicted that we would have him for no more than two days. Waffles is an incredibly loving pure bred boxer who loves to snuggle and give kisses. He's very social and playful with the other dogs at the pet resort. He's also incredibly smart and well trained. His only flaw (that I've seen) is that he's a "resource guarder". That means that he will fight another dog over a toy or food. We are now working with him to reduce this behavior. But for the safety of other dogs, and for Waffles, we recommend that he only have food or toys when separated from other dogs. For any home who is able to provide this, as well as some physical activity and mental stimulation through maintenance of his training, Waffles would make the ideal companion. Whoever decides to adopt Waffles will be very fortunate to have such a great dog! Link to my website
Dawg E. Dog ADOPTED
Dawg E. Dog was adopted this month! Yet again, another one of our Newlife K9s (formerly Alpha Dogs) found the perfect home. As you can tell by the article about Waffles, we are often surprised by how long it takes for our Newlife dogs to get adopted. However, when it happens, we know that it is because they eventually ended up with the owner/family that was meant for them. That was proven to be the case again with Dawg E. Dog. Ben, Dawg's new owner, expressed that Dawg couldn't be a more perfect fit for him and his lifestyle. Dawg E. expressed the same when her trainers from Thousand Hills Pet Resort went to visit her at Ben's home after her adoption. Joshua described that the look in her eyes could not be mistaken. She was truly happy with her new home where she gets a lot of time and attention from Ben. We all miss Dawg E. Dog, but we are extremely happy for her and for Ben.
Groomer's Tip
From Nose to Toes...
With the holiday season upon us, we're all very busy and sometimes very stressed pet owners. With kids' school schedules, shopping, entertaining and travel; our furry friends aren't always at the top of our list.To help keep their season bright too, just a few quick reminders: First, keep your pet's regular grooming schedule. Brushing, bathing and grooming are just as important this time of year. A fresh smelling pet is a welcomed pet when family and friends come to visit. Most important of all: NO people treats for your pet! Cakes, candy and cookies may contain substances poisonous to them. Foods made with sugar substitutes (Xylitol) may be fine for us, but can cause seizures and liver failure. Keep cleaning products, medications and human food out of your pet's reach and remind guests not to feed them either. If you suspect poisoning, call your Vet immediately and keep this resource at hand: ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center 1-888-426-4435.
A Healthy and Joyous Holiday to All! JJ
Daycare Dog of the Month!
December is here, and we're proud to announce that this month's Daycare Dog of the Month is Daddi! Don't let his stoic face fool you, Daddi is a bundle of energy when he's around his daycare buddies. He always manages to find someone exciting to play with, and even spares some energy to play with the staff! Even so, he will always find time for a nice nap in the afternoon sun. Congratulations Daddi, You are December's Daycare Dog of the Month!
