Nip that Cold in the Bud!

Feeling like you may be coming down with a cold? This simple home remedy can help you kick that cold out before it gets started.

Take equal parts by weight of garlic, horseradish, scallions (white parts only), fresh ginger root, and fresh hot peppers (the hotter the better: habaneros if you can tolerate them, or red cayenne peppers for a milder formula). Chop and/or grate all ingredients and combine in a large glass jar. Make sure you wash your hands well after handling hot peppers! Add enough raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar to cover by 2-3 inches. Let all ingredients sit, covered, for about a week in a cool, dark place. When you feel a cold or flu coming on, take a teaspoon or two and dilute with filtered water, sweeten with honey or agave syrup to taste. All of these common kitchen ingredients have natural anti-microbial and anti-parisitic properties, and can be used to knock out a wide variety of infections.
