"The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee Process Behind the Scenes: From Charter to Evidence to Advisory Report Recommendations"

This webinar, a collaboration between the American Society for Nutrition (ASN) and the USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP), will describe and illustrate the evidence analysis process behind the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee's (DGAC) Scientific Report, as well as how this translates into the recommendations to be made. The speakers will explain the purpose of the Dietary Guidelines, timeline for the 2010 Dietary Guidelines, how topic areas were selected to update, the systematic review methodology used to evaluate the relevant science, and how the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee's report is used to support development of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

There will also be a question and answer session, where you will have an opportunity to ask the presenters questions about the process for developing the Committee's advisory report.

"Chemistry for Combating and Preventing Disease"


A special joint Meeting of ASN and the American Chemical Society (ACS)


August 22 – 26, 2010

ASN has developed an educational program with the Agriculture and Food Division of the American Chemical Society. The series of symposia and events within “Chemistry for Preventing and Combating Disease” will delve into obesity, antioxidants, brain issues, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.

 

In addition to access to the symposia, panel discussion, poster receptions, exposition and a special plenary featuring Dr. Susan Roberts, Tufts University; Dr. Bruce Ames, Oakland Children's Hospital; and Deborah Sheely, Deputy Administrator NIFA Competitive Program round out the program. Attendees will also have access to videotaped sessions.
