LCM Cleaning Champs vs. Allen Field House!
After the Kansas men's basketball team left the court following its a victory over Colorado on Saturday, February 20th, another team took the court to finish business - KU's Lutheran Campus Ministry!
Each year LCM cleans Allen Field House as a fundraising event for its Alternative Spring Break trips. This spring 15 students are going to New York City to perform community service and five students are going to Germany to learn more about their Lutheran heritage.
But before the fun of the trips can begin, first the work. Starting strong with a team of 38, but dwindling to 20 at the end (foul trouble?), LCM brought its best game-on attitude to picking up all the shredded newspapers and tons of cups, as well as the interesting finds of a stuffed dog and a tube of hemorrhoid cream. In addition to brooms and mops, shovels and leaf blowers were also the tools of choice. This year Dayna Langdon broke the gender barrier, becoming the first female to use a leaf blower, never mind it was almost as big as her!
As the clock ticked past midnight and marked the team's seven-plus hours of work, the victory was in sight - $2200 dollars plus a $700 matching gift from Thrivent of Douglas County. Celebration was in order, and a final 14 made it to IHOP to finish up the night - cleaning champions for sure! Thanks to everyone who volunteered to help with this important fundraising event.
