Cultivating teacher-leaders

When Timoteo Ombati, an outstanding graduate from Kenyatta University in Kenya, was inducted in the Aga Khan Academy’s Teacher Preparation Programme (TPP) in Mombasa in 2016, he was elated. “I couldn't hide my joy,” he says exuberantly, “I celebrated with the whole village!” The TPP, a multi-phase programme, was designed by the Aga Khan Academies to train outstanding graduates from public universities to teach one or more of the International Baccalaureate programmes, enabling them to become transformative educators in their communities.

Network knowledge exchange
Several teachers from the Aga Khan Academies in Mombasa and Hyderabad participated in a teacher exchange as part of knowledge and resource sharing initiatives across the Academies network. “It was satisfying to learn how the Aga Khan Academy has a place of its own in other countries and cultures,” reflects teacher Sathya Narayan Prasad.

Students from Aga Khan Academy Mombasa won 17 top three placements at the 91st edition of the Kenya Music Festival in August.
Student service internships
60 Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad grade 12 students shared their summer internship experiences with their International Baccalaureate Diploma colleagues and Senior School faculty.
EGIS Skype exchange
Girls from the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa's Educating Girls in Science (EGIS) project took part in a Skype exchange with students at Nicholas Senn High School, where they built their computer skills while also breaking down media-driven stereotypes.
AKA Hyderabad students at IIMUN USA
Eight Academy students from grades 10-12 were selected to attend the India International Model United Nations held in New York City in August.
