Changing lives and sparking hope

“When I found out that I got the scholarship, it was a very grateful moment because it changed my whole life,” reflects Khushboo Ladhani. Khushboo and Kelvin Njue (pictured above) are two recent graduates from the Aga Khan Academies who were selected to benefit from a tuition waiver programme for Ontario post-secondary institutions. The programme enables students with the highest financial need and capacity to complete their undergraduate education in Ontario, and allows students like Khushboo and Kelvin to access new opportunities to foster their talents.

A passion for education
Theresa Urist has always had a strong desire to support students in their academic careers, which led her to the position of Global Director of University Counselling at the Aga Khan Academies. In this role, Theresa is able to fulfill her passion through opening doors to educational opportunities around the world for Academies students.

"I have had the opportunity to grow and learn as both an educator and an individual through my interactions at the Academy," reflects Andrew Jones, a teacher seconded to the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa from Ontario, Canada. After a year at the Academy, Andrew has gained insight into best teaching practices that he will share with Ontario teachers.

The Academy was honoured to welcome Mayor John Tory of Toronto and his team on 24 March 2017 as part of a wider Toronto trade mission to India.

Academy Showcase Week – demonstrating ‘excellence in education’
The Academy campus came alive in March when it opened its doors to the public with displays of visual art, music concerts, academic projects, evening plays, service internships, career fairs and much more.
 
Experiential learning through field trips at the Aga Khan Academy Maputo
Students from kindergarten 3 to grade 6 participated in a variety of field trips to enhance and extend their classroom learning.
