As we kick off another great year, let's work together to keep our kids safe at pick-up and drop-off:
Thank you for doing your part to keep our kids safe! Question? Contact Nan, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Be sure to update Nan of any address changes, phone number changes for both mobile and home, and update your emails. This ensures that you can be contacted in case of emergency. This will also ensure that correct information is printed in the Edison Student Directory. Contact Nan Robinson at email@example.com to make any changes.
The eNews is Edison's regular way of keeping families informed -- not just for Parent Council-related events and activities, but for many announcements from the front office, as well. However, due to changes to email security protocols, particuarly with uoregon.edu addresses, the eNews might start bouncing. If you notice you stop receiving these Sunday messages, you can add yourself back on the list by going to: http://edison.4j.lane.edu/?page_id=493 and entering your address again (and if you have a non-UO address, that is preferable). If you still have trouble receiving the eNews, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Meet your child's teacher and classmates at the Back-to-School Picnic on the Edison field from 6:30 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8th. Bring a picnic and blanket for your family and sit clustered with your child's classroom (signs will be posted in the field for each classroom).
Before the picnic, new-to-Edison families are invited to the New Student Orientation. Meet at 5:45 in the Edison cafeteria for some pertinent information for new families. From 6:00-6:30 there is an Open House when you may visit your child's classroom. Teachers will be in their classrooms to meet students before heading out to the field for the picnic.

The second annual Edison Reading Olympics will kick off in mid September. Packets with pledge envelopes and supporting information will be sent home in backpacks. This is a super fundraiser that gets everyone back into reading and helps support our library and our literacy program.
Student alone reading, aloud to parent reading and parent reading to student all count! So start gathering books and making a list of friends and family to pledge for Reading Olympics.
If you have any questions about this program feel free to contact Tammy Young at email@example.com.
To help everyone get books for the Reading Olympics, we will also have the 2nd Annual Book Exchange.
As a kick-off to Edison's 2nd Annual Reading Olympics the library committee will be holding the 2nd Annual Book Exchange. This is a chance for students to build their reading list in preparation for the Olympics!
The book exchange will take place in the Edison Foyer and begin September 14th. You may drop off donated books by putting them directly on the bookshelf across from the office or in the bin marked "Book Exchange Donations" in the library.
Please search your home libraries for books that you can donate to the school. Also, please encourage student to take books/bring books and remind your teachers about this opportunity.
If there any questions related to the Book Exchange contact Amanda Terhes at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Every month we will be collecting poems, stories, drawings, word puzzles, jokes, interviews, and receipes with a common theme. September's theme is "Summer Was Awesome!" Please bring your submission to the "Toucan Times Mail Box" in the front office or send to email@example.com. Please label your submission with your full name, teacher and grade so we can keep track of who is submitting items. Cut off date for September's issue of the Tucan Times is September 15th. The Toucan Times will be distrabuted on the last Friday of each month.
Mark your calendar! The first Parent Council meeting of the year will be Tuesday, September 15, 6:30-8:30 in the Edison Library. All are welcome. Come hear from Edison's Principal Tom Horn and get an overview of upcoming events and activities for the 2015/16 school year. Free onsite childcare is provided, as well as yummy snacks. See you there!
All parents and caregivers are encouraged to get involved in the Edison Parent Council. It is a great way to get involved in your child's education, meet new people, and support your school. The mission of the Edison Parent Council is to:
It is school time again, and that means Box Tops time! Last year, Edison earned over $1,000 clipping Box Tops, and we hope to earn even more this year. Take some time to look around the house for the pink Box Tops for Education logo. You will find it on products like cereal, Ziploc bags and granola bars. Just clip around the dotted line and send them in to school. Collection bins are located in each classroom and the main office. Together, we can make those little 10-cent Box Tops add up to real cash for Edison!
Civic Community Day, October 4th from noon-4PM Civic Alliance is hosting the first Civic Community Day. Come visit the site, see the plans for the future sports complex and grand stand, relish in old memories, enjoy music, food, beer garden, and activities for the entire family!
