COMING UP

teacherappwkTeacher Appreciation Week is coming up on May 2nd-5th!

Our theme this year is "Thanks for Making Our Future Bright!". We will follow a similar format as last year. Each grade level teacher will have a vase and basket in their room. Children are encouraged to bring in 1) a few flowers, 2) fruits or veggies and 3) a personal note anytime throughout the week. There will also be a large sun outside each classroom. The students are encouraged to write on the sun one word or short sentence showing how their teacher brightens their future.

In addition, we would like to begin collecting tea and specialty instant coffee to create a "tea and cofffee bar", allowing the teacher's to enjoy a warm drink throughout the week. Please bring in your donations and leave them in a box behind the front desk.

(Shhh...as an extra surpirse, we have lined up a few additional perks for our teachers and staff. Thanks to Rob Cohen, the teachers will be receiving a gift certificate to Falling Sky.  There will also be chair massages available on Wednesday and Friday to help them relax and de-stress!

***If anyone is available to help prepare the vases, baskets, and decorations, please contact Maggie McCart at mccart22@att.net.

JOT 5Save the Date:  Edison Jogathon is May 18!

Mark your calendars for the 2016 Edison Jogathon!  Look for info coming home in your child's backpack soon!

THANK YOU

thank youOnce again, we had an amazing Ocean Week! It takes a lot of work by a lot of people to make this week happen year after year. Special thanks to all of the Edison teachers and staff for their planning, scrambling, schedule changing, patience, and support. Thank you Carrie Ann for being an amazing staff coordinator once again. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped decorate Edison. Special thanks to Jason Aulicino and his Treetop program for the beautiful new decorations they produced this year. Thank you to Kari Davidson for coordinating all of the squid dissection and calamari cooking (for the 7th year in a row!). Thanks to Sachi Itoh and Beth Schenderlein who once again coordinated sushi making (even though neither of them have Edison students right now!). Thank you to Eric Evans for coordinating photography and putting together an amazing slideshow. THANK YOU SO, SO MUCH TO EVERY PARENT VOLUNTEER who helped make all of these wonderful events happen!!! Ocean week would not be possible without all of you. Thank you to our guest speakers Philip Washbourne and Marisa Woloscyn. Also, thanks to Philip for bringing in zebra fish for the Edison Entry. Thank you to Newman's Fish Co. for once again donating all of our clams and squid for ocean week. Special thanks to Mimi Kato for her help publicizing Ocean Week events. And a great big thank you to Whitney Garrison and Beth Mettler for their willingness to take over Ocean Week coordination next year!

REMINDERS

ecycleNext Step E-Cycling Competition

Keep up the good work! We have already collected over 300 pounds of old electronics that will be recycled and kept out of the landfill! Through the rest of the month, keep bringing in those old electronics to recycle. Look for the bin in the front hall. Keep it coming, Edison!

Room 10/Kindergarten Robot Alphabet Book

AlphabetobotscoversmallDon't miss your chance to own a copy of Room 10 kindergarten's awesome Robot Alphabet book! The class had so much fun making robot letters and would love for you to share their work with as many fellow young readers as possible. We have had the book printed by an independent book publisher and paperback copies can be ordered for $15. A proof of the book (a few minor adjustments have been made for the final copy) is in the office if you would like to see it before purchasing. Nan will be taking orders and payment. Stop by and take a look--they did an excellent job and are very proud of their work.

Save the date! Opportunity for Community Inputinput

Eugene School District 4J is beginning a strategic visioning and planning process to develop a 3- to 5-year guiding plan. The plan will reflect what our community wants our school system to look like and where the district’s limited resources should be targeted to best support student success. The resulting district vision and plan will be presented to the school board and the public in fall 2016. Input is critical to the success of this planning process, so please plan to attend one of these remaining Community Input sessions to share your thoughts...

• May 12 at 7 p.m.: Third Public Session (North Eugene High School)
• June 2 at 7 p.m.: Fourth Public Session (Roosevelt Middle School)
