As many of you know Ken was headed to Haiti for a planning conference for micro enterprise and water purification on February 2. Of course all plans have been changed. Ken will leave on February 4 with Edge Outreach to help install disaster relief water purifiers.Ken is tasked with finding two large vehicles to bring water purifiers from the Dominican Republic into Haiti. Special documents are needed for people to go and all relief is coordinated by the Salvation Army and Red Cross. The warehouse near the airport in PAP already in place through Blue Ridge Ministries is in good shape for a staging area. In the meantime everything that is needed for the team to live and work (down to the porta potty) must be taken with them. These are being assembled now. The first response will be bottled water, the water purification systems will help in the future. Each system will be able to purify 10,000 gallons of water/day using salt and a car battery or solar panel. Each teams cost will be $73,000. How can you help?
Pastor Joel is alive! We have heard through a third party and even the Kettering, Ohio newspaper that they were able to talk to him for a very short time. The epicenter of the earthquake was only 12 miles from Leogone and many of the aftershocks were even closer. His house has sustained moderate to severe damage. His family is not in Haiti, the boys in the states for school and his wife, Rose, in Canada for chemo. The church that his brother pastors had an addition that has completely collapsed but no one was injured. We are truly thankful for their safety even as we remember those that are not doing as well. |
