 PATA Manzanillo has spent the last year expanding free spay/neuter community outreach services with one-day mini-clinics in and around Manzanillo’s neediest neighborhoods. Now over 1900 animals have received the gift of life with free spay/neuter surgeries sponsored financially by PATA over the past 4 years.

Silent Auction and Poker Tournament Wrap-Up  The annual silent auction and poker tournament on Feb. 10 drew a small but dedicated crowd after being delayed a week due to unseasonable rains. The tournament sold out again for the 2nd year in a row, and together with the auction items, generated roughly 37,000 pesos that will be put to great use at the Mar. 11-15 clinic and our monthly one-day mini clinics.
Remaining auction items -- including several condominium stays -- are still up for online bidding until Mar. 1, 2010 so get your bids in now!

Volunteer Meeting for March Clinic  A breakfast meeting for EVERYONE interested in volunteering for the Mar. 11-15 will be held next Thursday, March 4 at 10:30 AM at La Pergola restaurant (beside Wal-Mart on the main boulevard) to learn about various roles, sign up for shifts, and brush up on the details of the clinic flow. Please bring a notebook and pen to take notes, and be prepared to sign up for shifts.
There are many ways to pitch into the clinic: registering patients, cleaning instruments, tidying cages, helping nurse animals post-surgery, running errands, sweeping floors, helping round up animals, feeding volunteers and washing laundry.
If you want to make a difference and participate in a very rewarding, life-changing experience that gives back to the Manzanillo community, please come to our meeting and find out how you can help! The meeting will run no longer than 2 hrs tops.

March MASH Clinic
The 5th annual spay/neuter clinic is fast approaching and programmed for Mar. 11-15 in the Casa Ejidal in Salagua. We are calling for any and all people interested in helping out the local community -- not just animal lovers -- to pitch in to a variety of roles.
We are in need of donated towels, sheets and newspapers for the recovery room, and anyone happy to do a few loads of laundry each day. If you have any cages or kennels to loan, the Scuba Shack in Santiago (across from the cemetery) is set up as a drop off point until the clinic begins -- please label cages/kennels/crates clearly with name and telephone to be returned CLEANED upon completion of the clinic.
We also need people to sign up to bring breakfasts (ie muffins, croissants, bagals/fixings, breakfast burritos, single serve yogurt), lunches and light snacks (ie. veggie/dip platters, fruit, juice, energy bars) to fuel the volunteers and vets onsite during the clinic days (leaving to go eat is often not an option with the high volume of patients that require attending).... If you and some friends want to help out together, why not volunteer together to host a lunch for the clinic volunteers? We need roughly enough food for 20-25 people for lunch; and about 15 people for breakfast.
Please help us by spreading the word and talking up the clinic with neighbors, friends, coworkers and clients. If everyone takes it upon themselves to generate more interest and support, then we can ensure the continued success of this project, which has all of Manzanillo's community at heart.
