Special NAMM Show Issue & 2010 Year End Piano Sales |
|
The Louis Renner Company, Germany, and Renner USA hosted a record number of attendees at the just completed NAMM Show, the largest and longest running musical instuments trade show in the U.S. |
|
Behind the giant action model is Clemens von Arnim, one of the owners of the Renner Factory, personally demonstrating the unique features of the Renner action to an enthusiastic stream of music dealers and artists from around the world. A special video showing the Renner action being played inside a Hamburg Steinway piano during performance drew particular interest.
A record attendance of over 90,000 people and 1,417 exhibitors were positive signs of an economic recovery in the industry. |

Pictured here are Rich Gallassini and Kurt Weissman of Cunningham Piano Co. in Philadelphia meeting with Lloyd Meyer and Rick Baldassin. Cunningham was established in 1891, began piano restoration work in 1945, and is one of the largest and most successful piano rebuilding factories in the world. Staying fully informed and involved in all aspects of the piano industry is one of the secrets to their success. Rick Baldassin is senior consultant to Renner USA, Technical Director of Fazioli Piano, and owner of the preeminent piano dealership and rebuilding facility in Salt Lake City. |

The Louis Renner factory presented Paolo Fazioli and Lloyd Meyer with hand crafted Buddy Bears designed with the Renner logo, as a symbol of Renner's continued commitment and participation in the increasingly globally oriented piano market. The United Buddy Bears convey an international message of greater peace and understanding among nations in which Renner believes making music together plays a major role.
The National Piano Travelers Association presented Lloyd Meyer with a Lifetime Achievement Award at their annual meeting for his contributions to the piano industry over the past four decades. Presenting the award were industry veteran Dawn DeMars and Dick Christian, NPTA President. |

Industry Flash
U.S. unit piano shipments were up significantly for the year 2010. The Piano Manufacturers Association International reports unit grand piano shipments up 13% and vertical piano shipments up 7%.
The piano rebuilding market was also up substantially, having fared much better than new piano sales during the economic downturn. We estimate that over 70% of quality grand pianos being purchased now are used or rebuilt, because of the unique value they represent. |
