Souper Bowl Success
A brief report from the February 9 fundraising event
Our Souper Bowl 6 fundraiser was a big success with over 175 attendees over the course of the three hour event. The event took place on February 9 at the Haley House Bakery Café and raised a net of $4,750, which will cover the cost of food and supplies for two months in the Haley House Soup Kitchen. If you missed the Souper Bowl this year, you can catch the replay at Boston.com.
We especially want to thank our event partners, MassArt's Clay for Change and Center for Art and Community Partnerships. Without their support, this event would have been impossible. The generosity of our chefs, farmers, and suppliers in giving of their time and resources deserves special attention -- together they brought an impressive collection of soups to warm many hearts and bodies. We are looking forward to Souper Bowl 7 next year!

|The New Live-In Community
An update from the ever-changing Live-In Community
Last month we said "Auf wiedersehn!" (that's good-bye in German) to our beloved Live-In Melanie, who came to Haley House all the way from her native Austria, but not before serenading her with a Haley House rendition of "Edelweiss" from The Sound of Music. Since the new year, we have also welcomed three new-comers: Claire, Rei, and Jason. If you're curious about what the Live-Ins have been up to, check out the Live-In Community blog.

|"Mother to Son"
By Langston Hughes
Well, son, I'll tell you:
Life for me ain't been no crystal stair.
It's had tacks in it,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor-
But all the time
I'se been a-climbin' on,
And reachin' landin's,
And turnin' corners,
And sometimes goin' in the dark
Where there ain't been no light.
So, boy, don't you turn your back.
Don't you set down on the steps
'Cause you find it kinder hard.
Don't you fall now-
For I'se still goin', honey,
I'se still climbin'
And life for me ain't been no crystal stair.
