New Year, New Leaders at Haley House!
Haley House is thrilled to welcome Bing Broderick as our new Executive Director. Bing came to Haley House in 2005 and has skillfully guided Haley House's social enterprise as Business and Marketing Director.  Bing is excited to continue weaving together Haley House's rich programs and growing our commitment to urban farming. To that end, we have a new McKinley Garden Coordinator, Carmine Leighton, who will be overseeing Haley House's urban agriculture programming. Endless thanks are due to outgoing McKinley Garden Coordinator Ruby Fairchild and Community Tables Coordinator Tanya Nguyen.  Kathe McKenna, Haley House's co-founder and previous Executive Director, will support Bing's new role by assisting with special projects.

McKinley Garden November Work Day Volunteer Crew

Haley House is overwhelmingly grateful for the recent and continual support of dedicated volunteers. Many thanks are due to Gilbane, Equal Exchange, Blessed Mother Teresa, Entertainment Cruises, Community of Sant'Egidio, Common Cathedral’s CityReach program for their recent juice, coffee, food, clothes, and time donations. And a special honor is due to our long-term (some over 40 years!) volunteers with Medfield Hunger Action, Stewmobile, Sai Baba group (who recently gave us a rice cooker), Roxbury Latin, and the Kathleen O’Connor crew!

roxtweetAccess to technology and the Internet is more important than ever. Join us for a networking event to explore the question, "How can we help all Bostonians increase their access to the Internet and to each other" Use #RoxTweet before, during, and after the event to broaden the conversation to the wider community. The event is free, but please register online here so that we can ensure sufficient refreshments. Come early, from 5:30-6:00, for an optional introductory Twitter workshop.
Come Celebrate with Sergeant Bill Baxter
Friday, January 24, 6:00-9:00pm at Haley House Bakery Café

Boston-police-Officer-Bill-Baxter-expanded-on-a-recent-culinary-lesson-to-his-teenage-students-at-Haley-House-Bakery-in-Roxbury 2Many of you may know our friend Officer Bill Baxter, aka "Donut". Bill was an early customer at the cafe, where he approached then-chef Didi Emmons with his model for cooking classes, using food as a vehicle to break down stereotypes and reduce gang violence. Over the last eight years, this has developed into the Take Back the Kitchen program, which happens in the back of our cafe on most weekday afternoons. Bill has been a tremendous support to us over the years and a friend to all of our staff.

Last fall, Bill was promoted to Sergeant, and to honor him, we are hosting a party at the cafe (12 Dade Street in Roxbury) on his behalf on Friday January 24th, from 6-9pm. Please drop by and congratulate him!
