Lost Breweries of Roxbury & Jamaica Plain
Wednesday, October 2, 7:00pm at 29 Germania Street
breweriesIn 1900, Boston was the American city with the most breweries per person. Most of the breweries were in Roxbury and Jamaica Plain, with at least 24 breweries along the banks of the Stony Brook. Come learn about the history of brewing in Boston from experts Michael Reiskind, vice president and historian of the JP Historical Society, and Filipe E. Oliveira of Percival Beer. Box suppers will be available to order online here from Haley House Bakery Café.  Please note the location at the Urbano Project, 29 Germania Street in Jamaica Plain (in the Brewery Complex).  More info available here!

AfriCOBRA at 45: Artists' Reception
Thursday, October 3, 5:30-7:00pm at Haley House Bakery Café

africobraAfriCOBRA (African Commune of Bad Relevant Artists) wasformed in Chicago in 1968 by a group of artists focused on shared values and social consiousness from an African-centric cultural perspective. Visual statements from the group were progressive, subversive, and transformative. Please join us to celebrate the opening of this retrospective exhibit showcasing the work of AfriCOBRA arists. The artists' reception is free and open to the public! Learn more about the event here.  

McKinley Garden Work Day this Saturday
Saturday, October 5, 9:00am-1:00pm at the McKinley Garden

Come join us this Saturday, October 5, from 9:00am to 1:00pm! Be ready to get dirty weeding, pruning, harvesting tomatoes that are shockingly still with us, and doing general garden maintenance tasks.

As we prepare for the winter and start planning for next year's growing season, we are looking for plant donors.  Please email Ruby if you or anyone you know would be willing to donate plants, preferably transplants and not seeds. And stay tuned to our garden blog for updates!

The Roxbury Russet: America's oldest apple
Wednesday, October 23, 5-9:00pm at Roxbury Heritage State Park
russetJoin agricultural historian, orchardist, and fruit explorer John Bunker for an evening of stories about the Roxbury Russet. Roxbury Russet cider from West County Cider, along with box suppers from Haley House Bakery Café (order here) will be available. From 5-6:00pm, there will be a cider tasting and apple tree viewing at Roxbury Heritage State Park at at 6:30pm there will be a presentation by John Bunker at First Church in Roxbury.
