Join Haley House in the Walk for Hunger
Haley House is organizing a team for Project Bread's Walk for Hunger on Sunday, May 4 and we want to recruit you!
Every May, over 40,000 people walk all or part of a 20-mile course through Greater Boston, earning pledges they have collected to support Project Bread's fresh approach to ending hunger in our state. Together, the walkers and supporters raise awareness of the reality of hunger in Massachusetts and raise funds for people in need. The Haley House Soup Kitchen counts on Project Bread's support and we are asking you, as a friend of Haley House, to join us in the Walk for Hunger this year. We want you to walk with us, regardless of your ability to donate or fundraise. No matter how far you can walk, you are invited to join the Haley House team.

As the weather warms up, many of our soup kitchen guests will spend more time outdoors and will have an increased need to transport belongings. Backpacks may be dropped off at 23 Dartmouth in the front door vestibule (please leave a note indicating that the backpack is a donation).

|Boost Minimum Wage and the Economy
A new report analyzes the ripple effect of Wall Street bonuses versus the earnings of America's minimum wage workers
The Institute for Policy Studies in Washington, DC. released an interesting report last month. According to the report, Wall Street banks gave out $26.7 billion in bonuses to their 165,200 employees last year. That amount would be enough to more than double the pay of ALL 1,085,000 Americans who work full-time at the current federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour. The report found that, using the standard economic multiplier model, every extra dollar going to a low-wage worker adds about $1.21 to the national economy (GDP). In contrast, every extra dollar going to a high-income American only adds about 39 cents to the national economy (GDP).
