Community Tables Out-Of-Doors Dinner
DSC_0098 2Saturday, August 17, 5pm: Dudley Square's Common Thread Coalition is pleased to announce the Haley House Community Tables Out-Of-Doors Dinner, happening on August 17 at 5:00pm in the Haley House Bakery Café parking lot at 12 Dade Street in Roxbury. There are no advance ticket sales and it is first come, first served, so arrive on time! The outdoor buffet will include Roast Chicken Dinner (with Vegan Cutlets available as an alternative entrée), local Garden Salad, Haley House Sweet Potato Mash, local Sautéed Greens, Haley House Ginger Slaw and Haley House Chocolate Chip Cookies. Our hosts for the evening will be Fulani Haynes and Nina LaNegra. Musical entertainment will be provided by Dr. Kamara's Drumming Circle and DJ Jose Masso.

Since last August's SummerFeast event at Haley House, Common Thread Dudley Square has presented a series of monthly, affordable, family-friendly events in the Dudley Square are. Similarly, Haley House has invited neighbors to a weekly Community Tables dinner, a "pay-what-you-wish" meal at the Bakery Café.  We are excited to join with Common Thread for the Community Tables Out-Of-Doors Dinner, an event made possible by a grant from Shawmut Design and Construction.

Interested in Cooking Classes?
Comm. Tables 2012-08-28 18.13.08Take Back the Kitchen (TBK) offers cooking classes for children and youth interested in learning how to prepare healthy, affordable meals. Do you know anyone who is interested in learning to cook? Do you run a program that could benefit from an added component of healthy lifestyle education? If so, email Robin Saunders, TBK's program director, to inquire about the possibility of having a cooking class at Haley House.  Classes range in focus from cultural awareness to farm-to-table to pre-professional culinary training. If you are interested in supporting TBK, please consider making a monetary donation to Haley House or donating goods such as child-sized aprons, chef knives, cutting boards, and child-sized stools. Contact Robin with any specific inquiries.
McKinley Garden: Thorns and Roses
scapesDon't worry, the only thorns in the McKinley Garden are on a few recently-donated pink rose bushes. The rest of the garden is full of edible fruits and vegetables - not to mention flowers - that are donated by individuals and businesses in Boston. We are extremely grateful to all of our volunteers and interns who have contributed an enormous number of hours to make the garden a space usable for the McKinley Garden Program this summer.

For the 2013-
nasturtiums 14 school year, the McKinley Garden is seeking volunteers who have substantial experience in building and maintaining garden spaces.  We are also seeking volunteer assistance for our nutrition programming and cooking classes. If you enjoy teaching and working in a garden or a kitchen, please email Ruby, the McKinley Program Coordinator.
