Total Eclipse
August 16, 2017

During a solar eclipse,
the moon appears to devour the Sun.
Day becomes night,
and our usually dependable source of light
becomes a weird dark star.

Our pre-astronomy ancestors often believed
this was the end of the world.

Human nature hasn’t changed all that much,
even with the scientific revolution.
When something we depend on appears to go away
(our money, our loved ones, our health, our work,
our home, or our sense of place)
it really does feel like the end of the world.

Nothing could be further from the truth.
Scientists love a solar eclipse,
because it’s a precious opportunity
to observe certain aspects of the Sun’s corona.
It’s literally the only time they can see
something that’s otherwise hidden.

When you are in a moment of crisis,
this is the best time to see
the action of the Holy Spirit in your life.
When your normal source of Good fails you,
look for the Presence of God.
Know this: your every dark time
will, in due season, return to Light.

Seattle Peace Project June-September 2017
The creator of this project, Troy Reicherter, will be with us Sunday.
Amazing Grace joins a number of other regional faith communities

Modeled on a 1993 peace experiment in Washington, D.C.,
and a number of others since then,
which showed a decrease in local crime when large numbers prayed for peace,
we will meditate or pray for peace daily.
Download apps for Apple or Android
