Selections from a science fiction super-hero comic-book music-theater piece by JASON POWELL -- "a comic opera for any sidekick that's needed a super-hero," in development by Milwaukee Opera Theatre. Watch Fortuna as she slows down time in order to capture criminals and clean up Anyville USA. But the evil Headmaster and his schoolgirls have other plans -- and will Joe finally become a super-hero and win the love of Elizabeth? These excerpts feature Nautilus performers LAUREN DRASLER, JP FITZGIBBONS, JULIE KURTZ, MAGGIE LOFBOOM, ANN MICHELS, KERI RODAU, and MAX WOJTANOWICZ, with music director GEORGE MAURER.

Plus -- performers LAURIE FLANIGAN-HEGGE, LAUREN DRASLER, JULIE KURTZ, and MAGGIE LOFBOOM try out our performer mentor program with a set of theatrical songs, under the musical direction of JERRY RUBINO!

NOTE: Monday’s performance is at Zeitgeist’s STUDIO Z instead of Nautilus, because we still have the set up for JOAN OF ARC’s much-anticipated return in January. Watch for details to be announced soon!

Nautilus' monthly series of ROUGH CUTS presentations feature uncompromising vocal and theatrical talent in an intimate and informal setting. The program provides an unusual opportunity to sample professional quality music-theater for only $5 or pay-as-able -- plus, we serve free cookies and milk!

Nautilus works year-round with writers, composers, performers, and directors to make new operas and other kinds of music-theater, and to explore existing work in innovative ways. Our full productions of such works as JOAN OF ARC, TWISTED APPLES, UNTOLD LIES, ALICE UNWRAPPED, ORPHEUS AND EURIDICE, THE DIARY OF ADAM AND EVE, A WATER BIRD TALK, CAROUSEL, MAN OF LA MANCHA, SONGS FROM AN UNMADE BED, MEDITATIONS ON ARION, THE LAST FIVE YEARS, and many others (including the Ivey Award-winning SISTER STORIES and I AM ANNE FRANK) have been enthusiastically received by critics and audiences alike.

Rough Cuts is made possible, in part, by funds provided by the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, The Minnesota State Arts Board, and the McKnight Foundation, and through support from satisfied audience members like you!
