AMIDEAST and Cisco Entrepreneur Institute Expand Regional Entrepreneurship Initiative in the Middle East

AMIDEAST offices in Tunisia, Morocco and the West Bank and Gaza are joining Lebanon and Oman to offer specialized entrepreneurship workshops for aspiring entrepreneurs, as well as mentorship programs and networking activities as part of a growing regional partnership between AMIDEAST and the Cisco Entrepreneur Institute.

AMIDEAST-run Cisco Entrepreneur Institute training centers are already operating in Lebanon and Oman and three new centers will be available to serve students and young professionals in 2012. Scholarships from local business leaders and AMIDEAST Advisory Boards have helped to finance these centers, enabling aspiring entrepreneurs to participate in the rich range of programs offered. The Cisco-developed curriculum includes media-rich, business-relevant content from a variety of preeminent sources and is enhanced by AMIDEAST programs that connect participants to local resources, mentors, and networking opportunities.

The addition of North Africa and the West Bank and Gaza will more than double AMIDEAST’s ability to reach thousands of men and women and prepare them with the skills, resources and networks needed to succeed. This initiative is meant to be a catalyst to help address the soaring rates of joblessness in these societies, particularly among college graduates, and to provide sustained support and assistance to program participants and alumni as they start and grow their businesses.

“The entrepreneurship training initiative complements AMIDEAST’s existing programs to assist youth and young professionals to improve their English language and global communications knowledge, and develop critical skills for workforce success. When future generations look back on this tumultuous yet promising period, programs like these will have enabled us to make a real difference and to be part of a successful narrative for long term positive change” said Ambassador Theodore H. Kattouf, AMIDEAST President and CEO.
