railbridge-01Urgent Action needed to restore Major Cycling and Pedestrian Artery in Peterborough

The pedestrian and cyclist bridge affixed to the CP Rail crossing over the Otonabee has been closed for reasons of safety and is likely to require replacement. This bridge serves as the only convenient walking/cycling link from the southern portion of East City to Downtown and also connects residents to Beavermeade, Rogers Cove and the south end industrial and commercial areas. While some funds have been earmarked in the 2012 budget to assess the issue, more funds will be needed for reconstruction. Speak to your City Councillor to make sure that this important issue is at the fore as Council sits down to discuss the 2012 budget next week!

citytrailsign-01The City's Comprehensive Transportation Plan Cycling Network has been approved

The City of Peterborough has recently approved the 2011 Comprehensive Transportation Plan Review recommendations. This includes a cycling network expected to cost between $26 million to $37 million over the next 20 years. The implementation of the proposed network has the potential to make Peterborough an exceptional community for cycling. Congratulations to everyone involved in this planning process - certainly an exciting and hopeful prospect!
