Peterborough Bike Fest: Tomorrow!

The Annual Peterborough Bike Fest is tomorrow, Wednesday May 16th! The fest runs from 2:00pm until 5:00pm at Millennium Park, near the Silver Bean. This event will showcase the work local organizations and businesses are doing to support cycling. This is also a great opportunity to get a free bicycle check-up with the mechanics from Wild Rock Outfitters and the Peterborough Community Bike Shop, and enjoy some free treats!

Community Cycling Courses

This year, Peterborough Moves and B!KE are offering a series of community cycling courses. All courses will be taught by a League of American Bicyclist's Instructor and the Bicycle Mechanics from the Peterborough Community Bike Shop.

While these courses are free of charge, spots are limited. Please click here to register, course options are listed below:

General Smart Cycling Course 
Saturday August 4th, 1:00pm - 4:00pm @ Green-Up
In this fast-paced course, you'll learn the real world skills to ride comfortably and confidently in traffic. Get solid advice about equipment, bike fit, gearing and tools; learn basic bicycle maintenance; and, discover street-smart handling skills in practical parking lot drills and group rides. 

Women's Cycling Course 
Friday July 20th, 1:00pm - 4:00pm @ Green-Up
Enjoy the same course components as the General Smart Cycling Course, and also discover the role the bicycle has played in the emancipation and empowerment of women!

Bicycle Maintenance Course 
Friday July 8th, 12:30 - 1:30pm @ B!KE
A workshop on basic bicycle maintenance and repair for common mechanical failures. Led by a friendly bike expert, this workshop will run through the things you need to know to feel safe, comfortable, and happy on your own two wheels.

Teen Cycling Course 
Friday July 27th, 2:00pm - 5:00pm @ B!KE
Enjoy the same course components as the General Smart Cycling Course, but with a format targeting teens!

The section of the Trans Canada Trail near Jackson Park that had been closed for construction is now back open!

Fleming 2-Wheel Drive
Wednesday May 23rd, 10:00am - 2:00pm

On Wednesday May 23rd, Fleming College will be holding their second annual 2-Wheel Drive Bicycle Information Session at the Sutherland Campus. This event is a great opportunity for Fleming students, faculty and staff to learn about some of the great resources and programs that exist on their campus and in their city.

International Trails Day
Saturday June 2, 2012, 10:00am - 2:00pm

International Trails Day - the first Saturday in June - is dedicated to the celebration of trails, their values, uses and the healthy lifestyle they encourage. On Saturday, June 2nd, we encourage you to get outdoors and explore the trails of Peterborough City and County. Explore your favourite trail, or one that is new to you! There are lots of trails and lots of opportunities to learn about trails in our region on International Trails Day!
 
The celebration kick-off will be held at Del Crary Park beginning at 10:00am with a host of exhibitors and special guest appearances throughout the day.
 
Trail Volunteers will be stationed at the following trails from 10:00am to 2:00pm: Roger's Cove, Nicholl's Oval, Lakefield Trail, Bridgenorth Trail, Sawer Creek, Millbrook Valley Trails, and the Rotary Greenway Trail Shelter at Trent University

Interested in Joining the PCC?
Take part in their Try-a-ride Series

From June 4th to June 8th the Peterborough Cycling Club will be opening up the following rides to non-members. There will be a number of different rides to cater to different interest, including an Ice Cream Ride and a Women's Ride!
