cyclingcourse-01Chemong Road / Reid Street Widening

The City of Peterborough is presently examining opportunities to improve traffic flow, enhance safety and increase roadway capacity on Chemong Road / Reid Streets between Parkhill Road West and Sunset Boulevard. A public information centre for this project will be held on Tuesday March 20th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, with a presentation about the project to commence at 7:00pm. The information centre will be held at Northminster Church, 300 Sunset Boulevard, and will be an important opportunity to advocate for the inclusion of safe cycling infrastructure.

railbridge-01Update on CP Rail Bridge Project

Sanchez Engineering, of Cobourg, has been hired to complete the structural engineering assessment and preliminary design services for the public walkway on the CP Rail bridge by the Holiday Inn in Peterborough.  Sanchez will determine if it is feasible to continue to attach a walkway to the bridge by examining the bridge's structure and by performing load calculations. The consultant is quite confident that a walkway can be designed that relies less on the bridge's sub-structure, and more on the existing abutments, piers and land mass available across the bridge's length.

This project is a top priority for City Officials and if all goes smoothly, it may be possible to begin construction in the fall of 2012.
