Test results reveal stronger roads with PolyCom

JPEG BENALLA RAVEL TEST UNTREATED.001

comparative sweep test conducted on a road treated with PolyCom has revealed nine times less loose material than an untreated section of the same road.

The sample at the top yielded 1kg of loose fines and gravel, whereas the sample taken from the untreated area weighed a considerable 9.2kg.

The test was conducted one month after PolyCom was applied to the unsealed road by a central Victorian council.

The results confirm the tightly bound nature of a PolyCom treated pavement, increasing the strength whilst maintaining all important flexibility to prevent traffic wear and water damage, and reduce the loss of gravel into table drains and as airborne dust.

PolyCom stabilises and strengthens the existing road material, preventing the expense of gravel re-sheeting.

Unsealed roads last up to six times longer when treated with PolyCom.

PolyCom wins 2014 Banksia Product Sustainability Award!

Earlier this month, Earthco Projects won the Product Sustainability category at the 2014 Banksia Awards for work with Victorian, NSW and Tasmanian councils using PolyCom to build a more sustainable unsealed road network.

"I really want to thank our customers in local government who had the courage to recognise that they couldn't keep doing what they were doing [to maintain their unsealed road network]," said Technical Manager Maurice Serruto in his acceptance speech.

"It's all about reusing and recycling your existing road, and PolyCom enables you to do that."

Environmental, financial and social sustainability

The Banksia Award comes just two months after Earthco Projects won the Premier's Regional Recognition Award in the 2014 Premier's Sustainability Awards for collaboration with local councils using PolyCom.

An alternative to traditional soil stabilisation, PolyCom allows councils to reduce their carbon footprint whilst creating a more financially viable unsealed road network.

Earthco Projects deliver on-site project support for works officers and engineers, and sponsor a Municipal Works Officers Association (MWOA) skills enhancement program for training and mentoring of municipal workers, amongst other initiatives.

Sustainability Victoria CEO, Stan Krpan, congratulated the Earthco Projects team for their innovative work.
