Dear Kat,
Spring Greetings!
Everything is greening here at Cedar Hill and the varied shades of green still fill me with awe. Nature is truly amazing. Consider, if you will, how nature is the ultimate community where a group of interdependent organisms inhabit the same region and interact with each other. This is the growing community of Cedar Hill, people coming together for a common goal, larger than themselves.
Recently, the members of the Forsyth County Master Gardeners formed our very own “Green Team”. They have begun planting a straw bale garden (click on blog article to the right to read all about it), have prepared the circle garden at the entrance to the grounds for the new "first impressions design" created by our dear friend, Jane Shoenberger, and got together this past Saturday for a potluck supper, which included a showing of the movie,
Permaculture: The Growing Edge. Chef Stacy Preece is spicing up our Fresh Green Friday dinners, adding a new twist to what it means to be a locavore. This past month guests were able to gather on our new deck to enjoy the tasty appetizers and the beautiful views of the gardens. We all love Stacy's enthusiasm and food! Make your reservations for April now.
The Cedar Hillton (our guest trailer) is becoming a haven for writers seeking a peaceful setting to stimulate their creativity. Several writers have enjoyed the space over the past few months and have already booked future dates.
The Apple Grafting classes were a huge success. We thank Charlie Whittle and Dr. Stephen Garton for lending their expertise. Due to the overwhelming demand for this class, we will be offering this and other hands-on sessions as part of our Legacy Series.
Community means sharing a common interest; creating a bond among members. Colleen and I will keep you up to date on this ever expanding community with our blog posts and this monthly online newsletter. We invite you to share your ideas with us for programs or facilitators. Come by to walk the labyrinth, visit the library or discover what’s blooming in the gardens. We’re keen on meeting our friends in person. This is the perfect time of year to explore all that Cedar Hill has to offer.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
Blessings,
Kat and
Colleen
