December 2011

SOS-logo 2Dear Save Our Salmon Supporter;

It is indeed a wild time. The last weeks have brought shocking revelations regarding the reporting of Infectious Salmon Anemia; great progress on the K'udas Closed Containment Project; and SOS having testified to the Fisheries and Oceans Standing Committee on the topic of closed containment.
(Click here for the Testimony).

With this bulletin, we want to ensure that you have easy access to the latest information.

We also want to take this opportunity to thank you for your support in 2011.

We are an extremely lean organization that is able to leverage your support very efficiently and strategically. Please consider us in your Christmas giving.

Let's work together to make sure that 2012 brings greater hope for B.C.'s Wild Salmon.

Wishing you the very best,

Eric Hobson
President; The SOS Marine Conservation Foundation

Infectious Salmon Anemia - "Cover Up"

From the Seattle Times (2011-11-29):
"A decade before this fall's salmon-virus scare, a Canadian government researcher said she found a similar virus in more than 100 wild fish from Alaska to Vancouver Island.
Canadian officials never told the public or scientists in the United States about those tests — not even after evidence of the virus discovered in October was treated as an international emergency, according to documents and emails obtained . . ."

Cohen Commission and ISA

The Cohen Commission of Inquiry into the Decline of the Fraser River Sockeye will convene a two-day hearing on December 15 and 16 to put new information about the possible presence of the ISA virus in BC on the Commission’s record.

To get daily reports on these hearings, join us on FaceBook or check in with the "Cohen Aquaculture Daily" provided in partnership with our allies, the Watershed Watch Salmon Society.

The deadline for public submissions to Cohen has also been extended. Click here to make a submission here up
