011 2 Design Charrette: Planning for the Next Century of Service
The Collaborative's November design charrette brought together over 50 people to envision new possiblities for The Neighborhood Center's Camden campus. "We want people to come to this center and find out something about themselves that they never knew before..."  Ideas and images from the day.

The Story of Sheridan Street
"Like all good things, Sheridan Street Housing took time, perseverence , and partnership, " writes Beth Miller, "I feel lucky to have seen this project take shape, gain momentum, and get built. While Sheridan Street remained true to the original design concept developed at its start with the Collaborative--a minor miracle in itself-- it also ended up being much more..." Sheridan Street from start to finish.

Mural Arts Program ǀ Creative Forum: How We Fish

Led by Mural Arts and sponsored by Citizens Bank, How We Fish will engage stakeholders from the public and private sectors, citizens and business leaders in a series of conversations about the value and meaning of work and the challenges this issue presents to all of us. Tell your story and contribute to the design of this new city-wide mural project about what work means, honoring the rich history and exciting potential of Philadelphia's workforce. United Way of Pennsylvania ǀ Voice Your PA Budget Concerns
Deadline: December 2, Friday.
Take a few minutes to contribute your comments to this statewide survey to document the impact of budget cuts on agencies and the people they serve. The economic recession and recent state budget cuts have created funding issues for many social service organizations throughout Pennsylvania. To access the survey, go here.

City of Philadelphia ǀ RFP for Mixed-Use Development
Deadline: Thursday, December 22 by 4:00pm.
The City of Philadelphia's Office of Housing and Community Development (OHCD) and the Department of Commerce are soliciting proposals for its Mixed-Use Development Program. The goal of this Request for Proposals (RFP) is to create economic and affordable housing opportunities by eliminating blight and strengthening Philadelphia's neighborhood commercial areas. A total of up to $1 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds have been made available in Fiscal Year 2012 to support the rehabilitation of mixed-use properties on or adjacent to commercial corridors. School Garden Grant Program
Grant applications accepted through December 31, 2011.
The Whole Kids Foundation, a nonprofit organization created by Whole Foods Market to support schools and inspire families to improve children's nutrition and wellness, is accepting grant applications for its first major initiative, the School Garden Grant Program. The program will provide grants of $2,000, along with curriculum resources and mentorship, to one thousand schools to launch or expand school garden projects. Apply.


Opportunity Knocks ǀ Call for Nominations
Deadline: December 31, 2011
Opportunity Knocks, the national nonprofit jobs website, has issued a call for nominations for its 2011 Best Nonprofits to Work For Awards. Winners will be selected based on a brief essay from employees on why they consider their organization the best place to work. The essay should consider work/life balance, the organization's adherence to its mission, camaraderie of employees, unique benefits, training and mentoring programs and more. Cities Alive | 2011 Green Cities Restoring Urban Waters
