This presentation will address the updates for Myocardial Infarction Guidelines which are important for clinicians and laboratorians as they provide valuable information on the new recommendations for serial Troponins as well as assay specifications.

Information regarding Acute Coronary Syndromes (ACS) will provide a summary of statistics along with definitions of indicators under ACS. The methods for treating Myocardial Infarction (MI), also known as Acute MI or heart attack, including the acute phase in the ED as well as the diagnostic expectations for patients in observation status requiring accelerated serial marker protocols will also be discussed.

The presentation will include a brief over-view of the high-sensitive Troponin and discussion on Troponin Turn-Around-Time (TAT), testing methodologies and a review of quality practices to optimize patient care.

Accreditation Product Development
ACC Accreditation Services

Ms. Cantu has over 26 years of experience in nursing. Her previous role as a Clinical Specialist providing support for a Laboratory Diagnostics company gave Ruth insights into how Emergency Departments and Chest Pain Centers worked with Laboratories. During this time, Ruth worked collaboratively with the representatives of these departments to educate and facilitate process improvement and workflow development. This was the inception of taking that knowledge and further expanding into Accreditation Services.
Ms. Cantu serves as a key contact and facilitator to all major laboratory diagnostics vendors and industry contacts. She has also served as a member of the writing committee for the current CPC Accreditation tools and assisted with the updates to the NCDR Chest Pain-MI Registry v3.0. To assist in educating staff and customers, Ms. Cantu continues to monitor the latest laboratory practice guidelines, diagnostic regulatory requirements and clinical guidelines to stay current with the advances in Acute Coronary Syndromes diagnostics.
