THE GREAT GREEN RECYCLING YARD SALE
WHAT IS IT? A
benefit yard sale held annually on the Zen Temple grounds. The sale mainly targets returning
University students looking to outfit their student rental apartments, but also
draws from the larger community based upon its reputation over many years as a
recycler’s bonanza!
WHEN IS IT? Always
Labor Day weekend, Saturday 9-5, Sunday 12-5, and Monday 9-5.
HOW CAN YOU HELP? There are any ways to help with the yard sale! Please contact the Temple at 761-6520 or Maitreya, our yard sale coordinator, at 668-0961 to learn more. Here is a partial list of things that you can do:
- Make a donation! The yard sale provides a convenient outlet for those interested in "de-cluttering" their lives! We offer free pick-up of larger items. We take all furniture in good condition, household items, working electrical appliances (only newer computers, please) nick-knacks and chotchkies, books, dvd's, cd's, toys, sports items, office supplies, kitchen ware, and miscellaneous items. Sorry, no clothes or building supplies. Contact us with specific questions!
- Look for donations! Tell friends and family about us. Keep an eye out for useful items left on the curb. Re-donate items you purchased at our sale. Come Dumpster Diving with us (we go out twice a year, once at graduation and again when student leases end in August. Ask Maitreya for specifics - you don't want to miss this eye-opening experience!)
- Come help us set up! Starting two weeks before the sale, we need lots of help with organizing, fixing cleaning, painting, staining, pricing, schlepping, testing electrical items, putting up fliers, shelving books, etc. Wherever your talents lie we'll make good use of them - and reward you with some chotchkie item you NEVER thought you'd have a chance to own! Sign-up sheets will be located in the Sangha Hall foyer and at the front door of the Temple.
- Come work the sale! Always a blast. We need sales folks to take shifts throughout the hours of the sale, particularly Saturday morning (our busiest time) and Monday afternoon (the mad rush as we're mostly giving things away and taking things down). Lunch and snacks always provided. Sign-up sheets will be posted in the Sangha Hall and at the front door of the Temple.
- Get the word out about our sale! Tell friends family, neighbors, classmates, frat brothers, sorority sisters, colleagues, online group members, your hair stylist, anyone you can think of about our sale. Word of mouth REALLY helps a lot! Let us know of ways we can better get the word out - publications, online user groups, etc. etc. We DO NOT store items for the next year's sale, so everything must go!
- Help us with clean-up after the sale! Starting with the final shift on Monday and continuing on Tuesday and Wednesday after the sale, we need help "reclaiming" the Temple grounds. We will put away canopies, fold tarps, find final homes or resting places for unsold items, take down signs, etc. If you liked how the Temple looked BEFORE the yard sale began, come help us reclaim this sacred space!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP - SEE YOU AT THE SALE!!
