City Impact

For those of you in the Pacific Northwest – The annual NW City Impact Roundtable  will take place December 8&9 this year at the Luis Palau headquarters with our special guest, Eric Swanson.  It will help you advance the work of Christ in your community.  Join Montie Ralstin (from Boise, ID), Tom White (From Corvallis, OR), and me for encouragement, and equipping!

6:4 Fellowship

The 6:4 Fellowship is a pastor-to-pastor community that exists to encourage, equip and connect pastors toward the priorities of prayer and the ministry of the Word.  Every pastor could benefit by being a member of this ministry.  Great encouragement in a great direction.

Greenhouse Effect

When you hear the phrase, “Greenhouse effect” you probably think of something like the following definition taken straight from “freedictionary.com” :

“The phenomenon whereby the earth's atmosphere traps solar radiation, caused by the presence in the atmosphere of gases such as carbon dioxide, water vapor, and methane that allow incoming sunlight to pass through but absorb heat radiated back from the earth's surface.”

But I have an added definition to offer you.  Since I wrote the article in last month’s IMPACT on the value of brief, repeated prayers, I heard a story that was too good not to pass on to you.

Dick Williams is a retired pastor of 40 years, a board member of IRM, and a good friend.  I often get together with him and another friend on Friday mornings to pray.  When I drove up to his shop/office on a recent Friday morning, there was a 6’X8’ greenhouse next to it.  When I asked him about it, here is what he said.

When they moved to their current house in 2005 he noticed his neighbor had a greenhouse that looked like it hadn’t been used for quite a while.  He asked her about it and found out that since her husband died it hadn’t been used, but it wasn’t for sale because her daughter wanted it.

Each day as he walked his drive way he would notice it and pray a simple prayer along the lines of, “Father please change the daughter’s mind and let me buy this greenhouse.”  His research determined its value at somewhere just over $2000.00.  A few years passed, but he continued to pray.  Recently his neighbor contacted him to say, “Our daughter has changed her mind and you may have the greenhouse.”  This was more than he prayed for!

So, in addition to what happens in the physical atmosphere, there is a “greenhouse effect” in the spiritual atmosphere as well.  As we pray brief, thoughtful, persistent prayers, God often not only answers them but does more than we ask for.

I encourage you to apply this, “greenhouse effect” to your congregation, to your family, to your community.  What prayer has God put on your heart that is worth persistent repetition?

Intercessors' Note

Thanks again to each of you who prays for me and for IRM.  See the calendar for other events to pray for.  And as you receive this note, I am in Birmingham, AL at their annual Pastors Prayer Summit (November 9-11) .  Please pray that we will finish well! I will preach at Parkside Church in Camas, WA (again) on November 20th. There are several “projects” I am working on and would ask you to pray for me ask I…

  • Finish the draft of the book “United and Ignited: Encountering God Through Dynamic Corporate Prayer.”
  • Begin to make an audio version of Living Prayer: The Lord’s Prayer Alive in You.
  • Assist with the leadership of the annual NW City Impact Roundtable, December 8&9
  • Seek to increase the amount and quality of prayer for the Clark County, WA – where I live.
