Round 16 Substance Abuse Regional Task Force Meetings Announced!
Round 16 - Governor’s Substance Abuse Regional Task Force meetings will be held from May 4-12, 2015. Please find the meeting dates/locations listed below.
The Round 16 learning session will focus on treatment approaches to the opioid epidemic in WV. The primary goal of the session will revolve around an explanation of treatment options including a discussion of “Abstinence-based Treatment” and “Medication Assisted Treatments.” The discussion will include best practice recommendations as well as providing a historical context to the current situation.
Speakers: Dr. Carl “Rolly” Sullivan and Dr. James Berry
Dr. Rolly Sullivan is boarded in Internal Medicine, Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry. He has a strong background in clinical, education and research in the field of addiction medicine. He participated in more than two dozen nicotine clinical trials as well as the CTN 0030 on the use of buprenorphine. Dr. Sullivan has served on many national, regional and university committees. He currently is a board member of the WV Professionals Health Program and a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council on Substance Abuse. He was medical director of Chestnut Ridge Hospital for 9 years and chaired the Departmental Executive Committee for 13 years. He has lectured internationally, nationally and statewide on topics in addiction medicine. In 2002 Dr. Sullivan, at the request of Congressman Mollohan, testified before a House subcommittee on Prescription Drug Misuse in Appalachia. Dr. Sullivan also co-hosts the WV Public Television show “Doctors on Call” and hosts biweekly infomercials for the “WVU Health Report.”
James H. Berry, DO is assistant professor with the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry at West Virginia University School of Medicine. He serves as medical director of Inpatient Acute Psychiatric Services and assistant director of Outpatient Addiction Services at Chestnut Ridge Center, the psychiatric center for West Virginia University Hospitals. He is the recipient of the 2014 WVU School of Medicine Distinguished Teacher Award. Dr. Berry has enjoyed serving the state of West Virginia through various teaching opportunities highlighting the severity of addiction and the hope of recovery.
