City Deal missing from Federal Budget

“After the build-up by the Prime Minister and his government about the importance of a future City Deal for Geelong and the Great Ocean Road, it was odd that no funds appear to have been set aside in the Federal Budget,” says G21 CEO Elaine Carbines.

“The G21 Board will travel to Canberra later this month, and we are confident that discussions in Canberra will lead to an agreement that will best benefit our region.

“We fear that much needed infrastructure across the region, such as a Geelong Convention Centre and tourism upgrades on the Great Ocean Road, could be placed in jeopardy if action isn’t taken soon.

Canberra delegation delivers election opportunity

G21 board members will meet with key government Ministers, Shadow Minister and Advisers during a delegation to Canberra from May 28-30, to advocate for key infrastructure and community development projects.

As the final delegation to Canberra before a Federal election, this is an invaluable opportunity to out the G21 region’s priorities front-of-mind.

GROW'S $20.2 million injection creates jobs

The innovative GROW initiative is reporting a $20.2 million injection of localised procurement among 16 of GROW’s participating organisations across the G21 region.

Results demonstrate that GROW is creating an environment that nurtures job opportunities in target areas where unemployment is at double-digit levels and well above regional and state averages.

State Budget delivers on City Deal

A City Deal for Geelong and the Great Ocean Road is a giant step closer with a $153.2 million allocation by the State Government.

The City Deal funds are earmarked for significant projects that will benefit the region’s visitor economy, including a convention centre, facility improvements along the Shipwreck Coast and central Geelong revitalisation works.
