State election outcome benefits the G21 region
 
With the election of the Labor State Government we look forward to the fulfilment of the pre-election commitments supporting ten of our Priority Projects.

G21 Council CEO’s Canberra Bound
 
G21 region’s municipal council CEOs went to Canberra early this month to meet high-level department officials on key infrastructure and community development projects.
 
As principal policy advisers to ministers and important influencers, it is in our region’s interests to ensure department heads and senior officials fully understand our region’s issues.

AGM a night of reflection
 
Around sixty members and stakeholders attended the G21 Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Wurdi Youang at the Geelong Library and Heritage Centre on Thursday, November 15.
 
CEO Elaine Carbines reflected on G21’s many achievements during 2018, highlighting that this year two elections were on G21’s radar; the November state election and a federal election.

G21 Board update
 
G21’s November Board meeting saw some new (but familiar!) faces at the table, with Cr Rose Hodge and Cr Bob Merriman joining the G21 Board as Council appointed Directors representing the Surf Coast Shire and Borough of Queenscliffe respectively.
 
The G21 Board also welcomes Cr Owen Sharkey (Mayor, Golden Plains Shire) and Cr Jason Schram (Mayor, Colac Otway Shire) onto the G21 Board for the first time, representing their respective Councils as Council appointed Directors.
 
Bill Mithen (Chief Executive Officer, Give Where You Live Foundation) and Patti Manolis (Chief Executive Officer, Geelong Regional Libraries) were re-elected to the G21 Board for a two-year period at G21’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).
 
 
             
Avalon opening      
Avalon's first international flight touches down
 
Earlier this month, AirAsia X touched down at Avalon Airport for the first time, launching the first international services to and from Victoria's second airport.
 
AirAsia estimates around 500,000 international passengers will pass through Avalon Airport in its first year of operation.

New agreement to help Victoria’s South West region fill skills gap

In a bid to distribute the migrant population outside Australia’s major cities such as Sydney and Melbourne, the Australian government has designed a new agreement to attract migrants to regional areas across the country.

The Great South Coast region has entered into a special five-year agreement with the Commonwealth that will allow local employers to bring in skilled workers under the Temporary Skill Shortage visa (Subclass 482) and will offer pathways to permanent residency for these visa holders.

Grants OPEN - Geelong Community Foundation

The Geelong Community Foundation is inviting applications for grants to fund projects and programs for eligible charitable organisations.
 
The Foundation’s key priority is to support programs which will improve access to quality educational opportunities and services that will improve health and wellbeing outcomes and will impact positively upon the lives of the most disadvantaged within our community.

Funding is available for grants between $1,000 and $40,000 for suitable projects and programs. There will also be two grants provided between $40,000 and $100,000. 
 
The Foundation will prioritise funding projects where the need is the greatest and where strategic solutions have been developed.
 
Grant application is available
here. Conditions apply. Applications close on the 18 February 2019.
