... and makes something beautiful from reclaimed materials!
Happy April, everyone. We're delighted to welcome Earth Day Month and the spotlight on conservation and sustainability that comes with it. We hope that you'll join us in celebrating a sustainable future!

Speaking of making beautiful things from reclaimed materials, check out this beautiful Creative Reuse themed sampler made by Dr. Sam Gardner, made completely out of materials found in the shop.

upcoming events

Make note: the shop will be closed this upcoming Sunday, April 5th for Easter. We will, however, be hanging out at the Allegheny Wine Mixer that evening for...

bar crafts awesomenessBar Crafts: April! Sunday, April 5th from 6:00-9:00 pm. Let loose with reuse! Come work on a practical or impractical project (your choice!) at The Allegheny Wine Mixer Inc while sipping on a craft beer, wine, or mocktail.

Open Studio Night is Thursday, April 9th from 6-8 pm. Creative Reuse Open Studio Night is a monthly after-hours gathering for creative minds 18+! Pay-what-you-can, potluck, and BYOB. The bulk section is free to use for projects you are making that night, as are the tools of the trade. You can bring a half-completed project to finish, or come empty handed and start something new. It's what you make of it (and we know you will make it awesome).

Our April Greeting Card Sale will run Monday, April 13th - Monday, April 27th. Fill a bag with assorted greeting cards for just $5!  Cover all your greeting card needs for every holiday, birthday, and whatnot in the coming year - all at once! You might be tempted to call it "the ultimate time-saving lifehack" or maybe just "the best deal in Pittsburgh" - either way, you'd be right.
Volunteer Orientation will be on Sunday, April 26th from 4:30-5:30 pm. Learn all about how to become a Creative Reuse volunteer at this month's orientation. Fill out an application here to get the process started!
upcoming outreach programs...

ReuseaPaloozaOur Programs team will be out doing variations of our Reuse-a-Palooza activity at several public events this month (details below, in the left sidebar of this newsletter, and on our website). Reuse-a-Palooza is a hands-on exploratory art activity where participants are invited to create with a large array of reclaimed materials. The possibilities for creations during a Reuse-a-Palooza are nearly endless! Participants exercise their creative muscles and learn, hands-on, about reuse.

Bring your family, bring your friends! We can't wait to see all the amazing things you create.

march recap...

March was a fun and action packed month!

  • U of Iowa volunteers

We hosted a delightful group of Alternative Spring Breakers from the University of Iowa, who helped us get some pretty major organizational efforts underway.

  • We made 3D Collages with a wonderful group of Girl Scouts.

  • We brought our Reuse-a-Palooza activity out to Southmoreland Elementary’s Art Night.

  • We had a great time using tools with kiddos during our Book-binding Workshop at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh.

  • Jokes, stories, and crafting tips were shared at our Volunteer Appreciation Pizza Party.

  • Good times were had at PAEYC’s Early Learning Block Party in Homewood, where we brought out a CUSP climate change learning kit and some fun reclaimed materials to reimagine empty city spaces with.
  • Our board and staff spent an afternoon scheming and dreaming for a sustainable future.  We are grateful for the Heinz Endowments' generous support of our strategic planning process.
  • We took another little trip back up to New Castle, PA to work with more brilliant young inventors as part of a Hoyt Center for the Arts afterschool program. A few of the day’s inventions: a machine that would offer bullies nicer alternatives of things to say to people, a body scanner that would identify diseases, a machine that would turn grass into vegetables on the spot!
