Samsung LCD share down in Distribution in early Q411, as HP, Acer and Philips show gains
9th January 2012 (London, UK): Leading LCD vendor Samsung saw its unit sales in Western European Distribution go down by -21.5% during the first two months of Q411 vs. the same prior-year period, in a market contracting by -5.5%. As a result, the vendor's share declined from 26.1% in early Q410 to 21.7% in early Q411. While Samsung managed to bring up unit sales in its 22- and 27-inch categories, growth in these segments was unable to offset strong declines registered by the vendor across the 21.5-, 23- and 18.5-inch categories.
Second-placed vendor HP managed to grow its LCD sales by +2.8% during the period, resulting in a 1.3 percentage-point increase in market share, to 16.1%. Acer was able to leverage growth in the 22- and 24-inch segments and saw its share go up from 9.4% in early Q410 to 11.7% in early Q411. Philips posted the strongest unit growth amongst the leading LCD vendors in Distribution. The vendor brought its LCD sales up by +27.1% in early Q411 vs. the prior-year period, resulting in a share increase of 1.6 percentage points, to 6.1%.
