How far do you walk for a drink of water?

For many of us, it’s a matter of walking from one room to the next. But for many people in northern Uganda, it’s often over a mile – every day.

We recently talked to George, a resident of Oleogai, a community ClearWater worked with to establish a new well. Oleogai had a spring, but it would dry up for months. Outside the dry season, the spring’s water was contaminated, and waterborne diseases were common.

George told us about women and children in Oleogai who had been spending up to six hours per day in search of clean water. Illness and time spent fetching water cut deeply into school and work, affecting the education and livelihoods of Oleogai’s villagers.

In September, ClearWater worked alongside Oleogai’s residents to build a new well, which now provides dependable, year-round access to clean water within the village. In addition, we held community trainings to provide education on sanitation and how to maintain a water source, which helps ensure the well’s longevity.

Thanks to donors like you, Oleogai’s residents can now spend more time at school and work, empowering the community to establish a more prosperous future.

Please consider making a special year-end gift and join us in touching other lives in a very real way.

All of us at ClearWater Initiative, in the U.S. and Uganda, wish you and your loved ones a very happy holiday season.
