FROM OUR ARTISTIC DIRECTOR:
Since September, our extraordinary faculty have enjoyed working with returning students, as well as a new group of energetic and enthusiastic first year dancers. Our third year dancers have recently finished an inspiring two week residency with Peggy Baker Dance Projects, in the spacious studios of Canada’s National Ballet School. As you read this, we are in our final preparations for our fall mainstage show, IMPULSE 2017. Resident Choreographer Sharon B. Moore has been creating a new work with the first year class; second year dancers are working with Jennifer Dallas and Jasmyn Fyffe, both of whom are commissioned to make new work; and third year dancers will perform in a new piece by Apolonia Velasquez, as well as in a revival of an excerpt of Christopher House’s Pingo Slink (1996). All of the dancers are working towards the performances with tremendous dedication and eagerness.
We are looking forward to hosting auditions for our Professional Training Program on February 4, 2018 – applications are open now. In this newsletter, we are delighted to present three remarkable profiles: Sharon B. Moore, a 1988 School alumna, Jasmyn Fyffe, currently creating her first work for the School, and our third year dancer, Kristen Innes-Stambolic. I hope you enjoy reading about these accomplished individuals, and look forward to seeing you at IMPULSE 2017. ![]() Patricia Fraser Artistic Director |

ALUMNI PROFILE: SHARON B. MOORE We are honoured to be celebrating our alumna and one of the School's Resident Choreographers Sharon Moore! We asked Sharon to share the story of her adventures in dance: "I loved my years at the School. Many of my classmates are still deeply involved in dance. They are all pretty spectacular. I remember Rosemary James and me spending our lunch hours running David Earle’s Sacred Garden three times through... Our work paid off. We ate tenacity for lunch. Endurance taught us that practice equals growth. Working hard gave us the wonder of entering a kind of spirituality through dance." Read Sharon's full story. |

GUEST ARTIST PROFILE: JASMYN FYFFE One of Toronto's most charismatic dancemakers Jasmyn Fyffe is working with our second year dancers on her first commission for the School: “This job is a dream. I always want more time and space to develop an idea, especially on yong budding artists; this commission really gives me that. All the dancers are so talented, and they work so hard as a group. They all do their best to understand what I want/need; they all bear with me; they take notes; and they also help me better understand how to direct, create and collaborate. They have honestly been blowing my mind with their commitment and talent. This is a blessing and I give thanks." Read more about Jasmyn Fyffe. |

STUDENT PROFILE: KRISTEN-INNES STAMBOLIC Kristen Stambolic grew up in Toronto and is thrilled to be going to school in her home town. We caught up with her to chat about how her third year is going, the upcoming show, and her experiences at the School: “Here you have so many classes, and you work with different styles and different teachers, so you have to immerse yourself fully in this amazing training. It is challenging, but at the same time, only if you give it your all, are you able to go further. I’m so lucky I get to wake up every day knowing that I’ll be spending my day training with dancers who are in the same mindset as me, it pushes me further. Read more about Kristen Stambolic. |
