CSYO Traveling to Washington, DC During 2012-2013 Season
MH900149418

Tentative Dates: June 20-23, 2013

Expected Cost: Between $750-$992 per CSYO member

Wreath Fundraiser: Wreath Orders and Payments are due by November 21st

Dear Youth Orchestra Families,

The CSYOPA board and CSO are in the process of reviewing several tour operator proposals for a planned CSYO musical trip to Washington, D.C.  At this time, we have not settled on a tour operator because we are trying to maximize the musical experience and monetary value for your student and family.  We hope to make a decision soon, and give you more details as they become available.

However, in an effort to assist families in raising enough money to cover their projected travel expenses, the CSYOPA has introduced a new fundraiser this fall…the Holiday Wreath Sale!  Please click on the following links to get more details, a suggested email form letter for family and friends, and to print out order forms.

The Wreath Fundraiser is not required**, but being provided to assist families in raising travel funds.  Any travel funds raised (100% of the profit once the Virginia Diner obligation is met) are good for use while the student or other family member travels during their CSYO association.  Students must still audition to be part of the CSYO.  (**Disclaimer:  Participation in wreath sales does not guarantee a CSYO spot.  If a youth orchestra member raises funds, and does not participate in CSYO during the season with travel, those funds will go towards future travel of that orchestra member or sibling, or put towards a travel scholarship fund for families with limited financial means.  Any family requesting financial assistance MUST participate in the wreath sale).

CSYO Student Receives the Gift of Music
As a Youth Orchestra member many years ago, Nick Lampo had no cello for practice at home.  Through the kindness of his music teacher, Nick received a cello to call his own.  For Nick, this made all the difference and he continued to play on, eventually becoming a professional cellist.

Mr. Lampo wanted to pass on the gift of music, and graciously donated a violin outfit to one lucky CSYO violinist.  The recipient, Alina Polkhovskaia, was chosen through a letter-writing contest open to all CSYO violinists.  The outfit is valued at $2000 and includes the violin, a copy of Joseph Guarnerius 1714, by Nicholas Parola, a bow by H. Luger and a case.  Dr. Pereira is very pleased with the quality of the instrument and thinks it plays more like violins in the $2500 category.

 Congratulations, Alina!

Former CSO cellist, Nick Lampo founded the Blue Ridge String Instrument Co. in 2010 with the mission to provide Charlotte area string students the highest quality instruments, maintenance services and rentals.  Mr. Lampo taught cello privately for thirty years and is an active chamber music performer. He is available to consult with students and their teachers on their instrument needs by appointment at 704-907-1527.

RSVP for dinner to csyopa@gmail.com by Thursday, November 10.

We will respond to all the RSVP’s on Friday with detailed information about the restaurant and directions. Aren’t able to attend the concert but you’d like to join us for dinner and hang out with Youth Orchestra friends and their families? That is great, too, but we need your RSVP for a reservation.

Our pre and post concert socials are family events and your child needs to be accompanied by a responsible adult unless you make prior arrangements with other families for supervision or car pool.

Call the CSO Box Office at 704-972-2000 for tickets or Family Pass information.
Single concert tickets are also available at reasonable prices.

Thank you to JYO and CSYO mom Dorota Rzepka for coordinating our social events!

Hemby Event Photos
The Hemby teambuilding event on Sunday, October 23 was a great success.  JYO and CSYO members had a fun afternoon of problem solving and challenging physical tasks on a beautiful fall afternoon.  Tina Zheng and Samuel Brock each won a $50 gift card donated by the Violin Shoppe.  There were also four $50 gift cards given out as door prizes (in all the hullabaloo, the recipients' names were misplaced!)  Congratulations to the door prize winners!
