Dear Friends,

I can’t believe it has already been a year since our last trip to Uganda! We are about to start another exciting trip with an important mission: we'll be collaborating closely with our friends and partners, the Ugandan Private Midwives Association and the Ugandan Nurses and Midwives Union, to further develop our Private Practice Midwife (PPM) model.

PPM Patient PPMs are entrepreneurial women who run their own clinics while providing integrated services such as labor and delivery, family planning, and HIV transmission prevention from mother to child. To the left is a PPM patient we met on our last visit.

Most PPMs are poor, often lacking adequate education and tools. TGF’s proposed model invests in these grassroots entrepreneurs whose business is deeply rooted in their communities. Considering Uganda has the world’s second highest birthrate combined with 15% of all pregnancies developing life-threatening complications, maternal and infant mortality rates are astronomically high. TGF’s work to empower these PPMs is crucial.

We will be meeting with PPMs throughout Uganda to learn more about their services and private practice operations. We are honored to have the opportunity to gain this intimate perspective of their work. With this, we will learn more on how our model might help empower them to save the lives of more mothers and their infants.

We'll be on the ground November 7-30. Please follow us on this powerful journey by reading our blog
